So I tried the new uprising patch which is essentially what the real game will be when it launches on the 14th. This is the first time I've tried to play the game since that earlier time when I posted my initial impressions.
I still don't think the game is very fun. I still don't think it controls very well for a console shooter. And those two factors really end it right there for me. You can have all the good ideas and good intentions in the world and the game certainly has its share of them but if its not fun and it doesn't control well, none of it really matters.
They've implemented some tutorial stuff in the game when you first begin but its still not enough. Anyone who starts will still be baffled for a good while because the game has some systems that just aren't really in other shooters. The way the game handles fittings is just different than most games with the notion of replenishable arms and equipment.
But like I said even after you eventually wrap your head around the way the game handles itself mechanically, it doesn't imo capture the essence of what is fun about the really popular shooters. Whether that's Halo, or Planetside, or Battlefield, or COD, or name your game. The moment to moment activity of playing the game is never fun enough.
They improved the graphics a bit from when I played it originally. They are not what I would call "good" but they are better than "fucking wretched" which is what they originally were. I feel like the designing of this game was mostly a mental excercise rather than what real deal fps developers think about and deal with. It all probably sounds wonderful on paper but not in practice.
Is this an improvement from when I played it originally? Yes.
Is the improvement enough to ever tempt me to play it again? No.
