Are you using a 2H or 1H weapon? I'd imagine you can beat Nightmare with a 2H but you'd need some badass armor.

How does that all work out?  I'm using a 2H weapon now and it said I have higher DPS than when using two 1H weapons, but it doesn't seem like I'm taking enemies down as fast as before.  Those other weapons didn't have buffs like increase attack speed or anything.

Bebpo, your experience has nothing to do with the Barbarian and everything to do with Nightmare. ALL classes traipse through Normal like some kind of overpowered demigod beyond time, space and imagination, and ALL classes get their ass handed to them over and over and over in Nightmare. Life leech, +Vit, defensive strategies, kiting, and watching your ass are mandatory for everyone.

I managed to finish Nightmare last night (L49) after AHing some good yellows (not my class) and investing the gold proceeds in good blues. Good blues regularly sell for 5k, good yellows for 10-20k. You can kit yourself out in a hurry and save yourself a lot of pain. Multi is also definitely the way to go...and expect to replay A3 at least once for gear and XP.

Good luck!

This is my current set up http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#WeYVRT!bVU!ZZZabb

Frenzy doesn't do as much damage as the other primary mouse attacks, but it will keep you alive. Ground Slam to gather mobs, then use Seismic Slam to hit everything at the same time; you can also use Earthquake to fuck them up. Vengeance does decent aoe dmg and heals you

Ignore Pain is essential, especially with the Ignore Is Bliss rune.

Basically the only time I die with this build is when I get stuck in massive aoe damage, or stand in something bad (poison, sentries, etc). I was able to manhandle The Butcher without much trouble

Ah, I'm not using Elective mode so I have to choose between ignore pain & ground stomp and I'm using ground stomp since mass stunning every 15 seconds seems to keep me alive longer than a few seconds of invincibility every 30 seconds.

Hmm, haven't really used Frenzy because one of the bash runes ups all your skills by like 30%, which means my DPS shoots up by 30% since fighter cry is buffed and that already buffs ATK

I use earthquake with slowdown rune and it's absolutely my best attack.  It's the only thing I have that can kill elite mobs.  But 50 second cooldown means I'm stuck without it a lot.

And I use vengeance as well.

Should probably try elective mode.

And I'm using two 1H swords.  No shields because I need the damage DPS.

Alright, changed to some of that stuff and have tons of DEF and HP leech now.  But my DPS went from 1100 to 400 and that makes me sad ;_;

I gotta get into this AH action.
I bought my entire Act II armor set off there for pennies. It works very well if you dont feel like grinding for drops.

I haven't even touched the AH.  I just keep salvaging all the yellows I don't use.

I sold some salvaged rare teeth for a few piles of gold early on in the game just to get a feel for the auction house. I would suggest you guys get into it if only to play the market and understand the tools before the 31st of May madness

Just rage quit after dying to an elite group of sand wasp fuckers in Act II desert who were camping my spawn spot.  They absolutely destroy me everytime I spawn and I can't run away.  I had a hard enough trouble finding these wasp groups on NORMAL with a barbarian since their little bugs tear through my armor, but now dealing with chain fire elite groups is just fuck fuck fuck.

Since I'm playing solo, do I need to focus on my follower?  I'm using the templar and he fucking dies in 3 seconds even when I give him a decent shield and some rings/follower item.

Playing nightmare with at least 3 people helps A LOT.  Like, a WHOLE LOT.

Finished ACT I on nightmare thanks to Joe, Bebpo, and earlier some Witch Doctor dude I didn't know.  Focusing more on def than dps with my gear and shit at the moment, which means that my dps output has stagnated but my vit and armor have increased a lot.  Game continues to be fuck awesome.

There are a few short in-game cutscenes that you can't skip past, as far as I know, but most cutscenes and dialog are skipable, yes.

finish the game on normal. pretty awesome game all told. the pleasure from loot and upgrading hit it's peak in the middle of Act III when i was dicking around with armor that has sockets and creating gems.

i threw some of the rare loot i got during the game i didnt want onto the auction house. some of the stuff i got up there is pretty high level and i put it up for comparable prices. hopefully it sells.

Bepbo, are you gearing your Templar? My Enchantress follower can take a beating better than that. Basically he should be getting any health increasing 1H you find, and the best shields you find; and don't forget his rings.

Since I use a sword n board I tend to roll with the Enchantress when I'm not playing with Viz. I got her a badass staff, rings, etc and she effectively softens up enemies for me

Try out Frenzy, runed to heal you. It'll be a game changer

Alright, after playing a few hours with Joe, we are GOOD TO GO FOR NIGHTMARE.  Made it about halfway through Act II, no sweat.  As Joe put it, we're finally feeling badass again like playing on normal.  Challenge is feeling just right and the LOOT IS SO GOOD NOW.  Tons of elites everywhere with nonstop magic/rare drops.  Also, it's just way easier to take on nightmare with 2 humans instead of 1 human + 1 follower.

After getting some solid loot and using elective mode, my barbarian is very solid.

Lvl.40
~1300 DPS
~2700 Armor
~5000 HP

1 hand is MACE
1 hand is SHIELD

1- Ground Stomp - Stun enemies
2 - Armor Cry - Armor buff for party++
3 - Ignore pain - Regen life while invinicible
4 - Earthquake - Slowdown enemies within
P - Frenzy - Regen HP on kills
S - Fighter Cry - Atk buff++

Passive Skills - 3% life leech, Armor +25%, Armor+(STR).

When I have earthquake available I can set it down, stun enemies, ATK buff, DEF buff, then ignore pain, and attack attack attack.  Otherwise smart use of Ground Stomp stunning and Ignore Pain invinciibilty frame while ATK & DEF are always buffed.

Also why is the economy totally fucked at the AH?  Everyone wants 20,000 for some shit equip.  I threw a bunch of Magic items on there ~lvl.35 for 3k each, and good gold rares ~lvl.35 for 5k each and they sold real fast.  Considering the rate you get gold/magics that you don't need or can't use on Nightmare, it seems like their worth really shouldn't be more than about 3-5k magic, 5-10k rare.  But hey, if I can dump 10 items on the AH every hour for 3-5k and people are buying them, that's a lot of easy money.

I'm also at the point where I don't know what to do with my money again.  I have the blacksmith and jewel guy at rank 5 and it's really expensive to train them further, so I don't know if I should bother.  The loot I'm getting mid-Act II lvl.40 on nightmare is way better than anything my blacksmith can make.  And the AH...well, when I searched everything was insane prices so I'm not even bothering buying.  Maybe I should search by price instead of stats.

3D Vision really helps this game, by the way. It's only rated 'Good' by NVidia due to some issues with the self-shadowing (which you can mostly eliminate by turning Shadows to medium) but you can really crank up the depth on it and get a great sense of epic scale. I don't understand people who run SLI set-ups etc but don't play in 3D Vision, it's soooooo much better and more immersive than regular 3D. You have to see it in action of course.

Once there was tale, written in the modern lore, and passed through internets.  It was a tale of a fiendish EVIL that lurked on the nightmare difficulty named BELIAL and the holy savior of the diablo III bore thread, PhoenixDark the Unstoppable.

One day, while sitting in his comfy couch, Bebpo the Barb was playing with Viz the Wiz and PhoenixDark the Unstoppable.  The trio approached Belial ready to do combat.  At first the combat progressed in their favor, with all three smashing and zapping and earthquaking Belial back to Hell.

But on his counterattack filled with many green explosive circles, Bebpo the Barb was slain along with Viz the Wiz.  With over half of Belial's HP still remaining, the 2/3rds of the party were lost in despair.  "lol ;_;" they said with their saddened emoticons.  They waited for the inevitable demise of PhoenixDark the Unstoppable.

Yet, minutes passed, and true to his name, PheonixDark the Unstoppable would not be beat by a mere Demon Lord.  Minute by Minute Belial attacked, and PheonixDark the Unstoppable's HP would not decrease.  In fact, it would increase as he consistently turned the tables on Belial.  To add insult to the Demon Lord, PhoenixDark the Unstoppable kept reviving his comrades over and over again mid-battle.  He would look in the ugly polygon face of death and laugh and raise his comrades instead of dodging.

Each time the trio was raised they concentrated their firepower all on the evil Demon.  And time and time again Belial would swat down Bebpo the Barb and Viz the Wiz.  Yet PhoenixDark the Unstoppable would not go done.

At the end of a grueling five to six minute battle, the trio all raised and fighting in unity stuck together and without mercy vanqiushed the Demon Lord Belial's soul from the plane of Diablo III servers, one game instance.

The city shouted and roared with life for the group of heroes, and among themselves they celebrated the birth of the legend...of Holy Savior of the Diablo III Bore Thread, PhoenixDark the Unstoppable vs. The Evil Demon Lord Belial on Nightmare Difficulty.

So how do you guys compare this game to DII? I like the rune system In DIII, but I miss carring about resists and stuff like that. I also miss fantastic unique items.

Its fun as hell, but I don' t see myself playing this near as much as DII. Another thing that slightly bothers me is seeing the characters carrying a weapon yet never using it... It looks sily.

D2's mechanics are better.  I really miss the customization aspect.  When I level up in D3 and look at the newly unlocked runes I think "well I won't ever use those".  Everything feels so limiting and (pardon the cliche term) dumbed down in D3.

A perfect game would be D2's mechanics with D3's auxiliary features.

D3 has better customization because build options are endless and with elective mode, it's even more insane once you get a high level.

D3 has a better economy, gold has actual use.

D3 has more interesting quests, but a probably worse story but the story is still enjoyable given the right mindset since it's so fucking metal.

D3 has better balance in that how game difficulty modes and loot are handled but D2 has more interesting loot (at least so far).

I'd say D3 is better designed and the fact it's not a fucking 12 year old game gives it some major kudo points.

Finished up Hell mode. I did most of Act 4 by myself because my partner went to bed, but I only had trouble on a couple elite packs. I can't move on to Inferno yet either, because I'm still level 59. :(

I see some other Monks saying they're starting Inferno with 6.5k DPS or so, but I only have 5.5k. Not sure what I'm missing here - some of my items are kinda bad, but overall I think my gear is decent. shrug
