My DPS is still pitiful, but Act 1 Nightmare was a cinch nonetheless. You'll destroy it, quietID.

Maybe I should listen to you, Treesong, since my Level 38 Monk has 1750 armor :lol

Yeah, I've been finding the whole game a cinch so far. The only time I died consecutively on any 1 part was the belial fight, and that was before I staretd using the AH.

AH is the new 'FREE DROPZ!1' game. I just put in the item/stats i'm looking for then sort by lowest buyout. Every now and again I hit the AH with ~30-40k and do this looking for stats + sockets and end up getting at least 2-3 items far better than anything I've ever seen drop.

I haven't even come close to dying in a boss fight. I only die when I go into a fight against champions with my spirit very low and I get cocky. I still haven't bothered using the AH to buy anything.

Yeah, that Izual fight when I was with you got me too. My char was geared towards high DPS/spirit regen and I got caught out by his freezin balls, apart from that bosses have been pitiful. Still can't believe the Monk dash attack stunned Diablo nearly every time, I could count the number of times he hit me on one hand smh. I like the lack of emphasis on boss fights, but it would be nice if they didn't straight suck

The DHs I know are all bow/quiver.
I was rocking single handed crossbows and large socketed shields today. Needed to play a supportish role where I was snaring mobs for the monk and wizard in my group. Of course I spammed lightning balls from the back like a champ as well.  Usually I bow/quiver but I'm looking to change it up, I even tried a sword for an entire dungeon for the heck of it.

I was able to withstand quite a bit of mobswarm. I cannot remember what the stat # was but I recall being impressed by the survival possibilities going forward that increased resistance + smoke + cartwheeling away will add. I'll fire up my char tomorrow at work and give you numbers, it's 1:15 am and I need to work at 6 so I should really go :-\

I'm farming a bit now for that Legendary 900+ defense shield  flooding the auction house. I figure if I'm going to use an unpopular build might as well do it properly. I saw the shield buyout as low as 30k, but I want to at least try and get it myself before going the money route.

Also just one sword away from having Born's Legendary set.

i'm finding Nightmare to be a piece of cake so far in Act 1. I'm sure it ramps up but as of right now, I see no need for cheesy grinding or AH tomfoolery. It's nice to know those options are there if I want them though.

Nightmare feels like the difficulty the game should have been.  It's not a cakewalk, but you feel like a beast with normal enemies, blue/gold mobs are a nice fun challenge that's rewarding to win against, and bosses are...ok; they are basically the same as normal but with more HP and you actually need to learn to dodge Belial's green explosions.

Yellows don't really mean a whole lot, do they. I mean, they don't sell for much more than good blues and most of the time the stats aren't notably better either. I still auction or salvage 99% of whatever I pick up regardless of color.

Defeated The Butcher on hell with Viz. I had complained about the lack of punishment on normal/nightmare, but the difficulty is definitely advanced for hell, instead of just increasing boss health/dmg. If you get hit by his charge, you're dead - well except for me since I have 26k health and 60% dmg reduction  :-*

I want to try it as a ranged class, it seems like it would be very frustrating. The patterns aren't hard to figure out (he'll point where he's going to do an attack), but the random fire spawns seem like they'd fuck you  big time

There are Achievements for having all Yellows or all items requiring > Level X.

A good blue will be better than a mediocre yellow. A good yellow will be better than a good blue. A GREAT yellow will be better than a mediocre Legendary/Set. There is definitely overlap between the different tiers. Know what works for you and get the gear you need.

Yellows roll more affixes, so they're more likely to roll shitty affixes. But a Yellow with all the stats you need, life leech, crit%, and Magic Find? That's going to be some God-tier gear.

At this point, I'm only AHing yellows or blues if they have at least two good stats in a high number. I assume most people are like me - filter by base stats (i.e. Dex > 100, Vit > 80) before refining further. If it's not going to pass those criteria, I figure it will be buried and never seen.

My armor's pretty good at level 53, 3200 unbuffed, but my DPS just isn't cutting it anymore, only 2500. I'd like to get my DPS up to around 4000, but that might be a stretch at this point.

Got about halfway through Act II solo.  Been pretty cake so far.  I think if you're overpowered in ATK it's actually easier to solo Hell mode than play with others because it keeps the enemy HPs low so you can 1 hit them and blow through mobs & bosses.  Wheres with 2-4p they have more HP so you need to actually survive for a few mins and I'm not good at that.

I REALLY WISH you could compare equip at the AH in real time like by switching out equip.  I am using a 2H sword that is 350 DPS with +16% damage and +43% critical and +STR 50% and Life Leech 2%.  I thought if I replaced it with TWO 1H Swords that have ~300 DPS, +15-20% damage, +20% crit +40 STR +2% life leech it would double my stats since it's like I just equipped two of my current 2H.  So I bought them for 15k and 20k on AH.  Then I equip both and my DPS goes from 6100DPS to 3700DPS and I'm like wtff.  So I went back to using my 2H sword.

I've had a lot of times where I by equip that looks like it has better stats, but then when I go in game and see the real-time comparison the stats are worse for some reason and I just wasted my money.

Also, I need to price my items better on the AH.  I keep buying good rares on the AH for 15-30k a piece, yet I keep selling the rares I find that are EVEN BETTER than the stuff I'm buying for 5k a sale just to make sure it sells.  And it does!  My stuff sells in like an hour each time.  But I feel like I really should be making more money on these.  Hell, I've had times where my equip is better than ANYTHING ON THE ENTIRE CURRENT AH in that level range with those stats and I see the next closest ones selling for 100k-500k and then I sell them for like 10k  :(  But I've also had stuff sit for DAYS on the AH and I hate that so I've just been pricing everything at 5k with an occasional 10k.

I have this Helmet for instance that I'm using which is like the best helmet type for the 50-56 range barbarian with Vit + 111, and STR + 55, and an empty socket (so you can add life + 12%) and some other stat like Poison resist + 25.  I went and I searched the AH for helmets in the 50-56 range with Vit+100 min, and STR+50 min and socket and there wasn't a single one on the entire AH.  I guess when I stop using it and move on to something else I'll price it at like 99k and see if it sells on the AH.

Well, since stuff that sells for 300G is usually worth about 30k gold on the AH, I think if you just subtract a 0 and add a K you'll get what it's really worth.  So that Crossbow would be worth 314k, which sounds about right considering how god-tier it is.

Yeah I'm bemoaning the fact that you can only really get that at the AH and not in game. Would be more interesting if you could sell a high quality rare like that and buy like 3 storage tabs without having to AH haggle. As it stands you can buy like a third of a storage row with that cash :/

Hence blizzard is funneling people to the AH (cleverly from their point imo, but yeah I dont always want to haggle and barter)

I played Diablo 1 (so I recognized The Butcher).   Don't remember if I beat it, or how far I got but I definitely played it for a week or so when it first came out.

But I skipped D2, and since D3 is based on D2 (as are most clones), I'm new to a lot of this.

Btw, I'm curious how expansions work in these games.  In Diablo 2 when the expansion came out, could you use your existing character on the new areas?  Because if you have a lvl.60-99 character, it'd be really lame to play the new expansion areas on Normal difficulty, but then if you jumped right into Inferno difficulty, you'd miss the chance to play the new areas 4x through as they get progressively tougher.  So I'm curious how D2 handeld expansions since I'm guessing any D3 expansions will be like D2 expansions and I'm ready for new areas and new bosses.

Also what's the point of gaining levels besides getting to use better equip with lvl reqs?  Unlike most rpgs I never feel like my stats or DPS increases when I gain levels so when I go days without any new or good loot I don't feel like I'm progressing.

Like, I'm about to hit lvl. 57 and my DPS and stats are the exact same as when I was lvl.54 last night because all my equip is the same.  But at the same time I swear it feels like going back to Act I Hell Mode, the enemies seem to go down easier.

D3 is more gear dependent in terms of stats, moreso like an MMO than an RPG imo. For instance I got two vitality points for reaching lv54 today, whereas I gained about 60 vitality off of the lv54 shield I was able to equip afterwards.

Hmm, I hadn't even thought about level caps.  I just assumed the game went to lvl.99 like most rpgs and there'd be lvl.60-65 loot, lvl.66-70 loot, etc...  but upon googling it I see lvl.60 is the max.

Wow, I don't think I've ever hit the level cap in a game before and it looks like I'll be there in another 2-3 sessions.  So since I'm already looking at lvl.60 gear at the AH since I put lvl.55-60 as my criteria...I guess I'm looking at the final endgame loot for my class.  It's weird because it doesn't look THAT great.  Level 60 2H non-legendary weapons for Barbarian seem to cap out at like 600-800DPS.  Which doesn't seem that high for the highest equipment in a game like this.  I guess Inferno looting and playing is almost entirely about trying to get Legendary equipment because that's the only thing better than the equip you have upon finishing Hell mode.  Sounds grindy.

Otoh I'm glad that maxing out a character class in a game like this only takes 50-60 hours.  That way it's not a huge timesink and if you want to keep playing you go grind legendary sets for hours or start a new character class and do the 50-60 lvl.1->60 3x difficulty run again.

I was going ok at the start of nightmare but by the end of Act 1 it's getting tougher. Will need to get some more +VIT gear I think.

When does the blacksmith become a worthwhile investment? I think I just hit Master.  The equipment he sells is worse than my random loot (not counting mystery stats) or too good for me to wear (and requires a lot of teeth).

I'm still Act 2 Normal, but that's all I've been spending gold on.

I think you can craft legendary items at level 10, but you need specific pages that drop off mobs in Inferno.  It's really a big money sink that is kinda pointless because of the auction house (unless you are hunting for cheevs)

After getting a new weapon, helmet, and shield from the AH, my armor is now 3717 [unbuffed] and my DPS is 3847. Now it's time to go beat Diablo on Inferno!

If you use the AH (not really necessary until after normal) I'm not sure if there is a benefit to using the blacksmith
