? Touch screen stuff looks like it could be fun shenanigans and is a free fifth player.  You don't have to bitch about everything on the internet.

Touch controls worked fine in the Vita version of Rayman Origins. It doesn't add much to the experience, but for once it didn't feel needlessly tacked on.

I'm pretty sure the Wii U won't be powerful enough to output four additional 854*480 screens besides the main 720p/1080p one.

Wired tablet :rofl :rofl

Were there even wired tablets in the history of tablets?

This is some pre 1994 era of tech.

Think it's just a dev kit controller - the final is wireless, of course.  Though I hope there is a cord so you can play if the battery is low.

Umm, graphics don't matter!

Really pleasantly surprised it has online. Hopefully NSMB Mii or whatever follows suit.

I don't think power matters much here,4 player split screen is nothing new.I guess it comes to delivering 4 independent low latency streams.
There was some rumor about  experimenting with two controllers,so who knows.

These comments are all over my tweet feed - again, these are established -this gen- standards and Nintendo are getting props for it.

We knew these reactions were coming but seeing them just feels almost... surreal. Why are people surprised by what should be stable abilities of a machine in this day and age?

The NFC applications for this thing though is going to be huge with younger gamers and OCD collectofiends like myself. Just need to find the right application which, lets face it, is likely to be things like Pokemon, Pokemon and Pokemon.

I hope that WiiU gets tons of third party ports. Can't wait to see "Nintendo console only" people praising things like Red Dead Redemption,Skyrim,Bioshock,Batman,GTA,Fallout, etc

Huh? I'm praising Ubi for it. They were stupid to leave online out of Origins and I don't remember anyone on any other system complaining about Origins' visual either.

Come on, Ubisoft has nothing to do with this.  Clealry it's Nintendo pulling the strings here and getting them to do what those layabouts at Sony and MS didn't do for Origins.

So why are you praising the graphics? Did you expect them to look worse on Wii U or something, or do you praise everything?

I think they look nice? Jeeze. And yeah, on someone level I am impressed the Wii U can pull it off considering the "leaks" that Wii U is less powerful than PS3 and 360.

For me, the most baffling thing was back in the Café rumors era when details were leaking about what would later be named the Wii U. Details like "HDMI-out" and "1080p capable" would be leaked, and you'd see a string of posts that were just ecstatic about this hot news. It made no sense to me. I think there were a few other details in there somewhere that were clearly in the "you obviously don't follow tech if you thought there was any chance that new hardware wouldn't have this in 2012" class of news that people were virtual high-fiving over.

Yeah, looks that way.  Must have been pretty cheap to make, the game sold like incredible shit on every platform.

But that's the thing... it was on every platform. Combine all the sales together and they must look... umm... passable, no?

In any case the engine's already in place, I guess it was easier for Ancel to convince Ubi to do another Rayman than BG&E2.

I bought Origins for 12 pounds off Zavvi, got it yesterday, played it less than 5 hours but judging by the trophies I'm almost done. That being said it was worth it, the game is fun and offers a lot of re-playability in the shape of secrets and speed runs and such.

It was awkwardly advertised too, tablet + 4 remotes that is: Guy w/wiimote peeking over his friend, "Oh Cindy, you so crazy."

Other than that, I think it looks pretty sweet. I loved the first, and I hope this one sells better. I might bite on the Wii U version if they sell me on it this E3.

I can see that totally crashing unless the toys serve a purpose outside of DLC crap. Ubisoft, Scamco, Activision and Nintendo will probably bring up a whole load of junk early in the platform's life, but at the end of the generation I'd expect only Nintendo to still be doing it.

If you want an example of how bad this all gets, look at the e-reader nonsense with Mario 3 GBA.  All that new content (something like 30 or 40 levels) for Mario 3 that's basically inaccessible.

However, this has a wiff of a Nintendo philosophy of "how do we make a machine that helps us sell <nameofgame>?" and the Wii U is basically geared around selling Pokemon and Pokemon toys. After all the Ninthing moaning about how dev costs are going up, do 3rd party games devs really want to be getting into the Plastic NFC figurine thing?

I'm pretty sure the NFC thing doesn't have anything to do with Pokemon. Anything Nintendo does with a new home console likely has nothing to do with Pokemon.

What likely happened is they saw Skylander's Wii success and did the same thing they did when they saw the uDraw tablet's success: copied it and made it standard on the console for all devs to use without clutting retail shelves with their own peripherals.

No way was the tablet inspired by uDraw, I'm sure they had this cooking for a while (as half-baked as it looks).
I don't doubt the NFC thingy was an effort to horn in on the success of Skylanders tho.
I am massively unenthused about all this doll crap.  I would have bought Skylanders if not for that - the game was made by the Star Con 2 guys and you can really tell by checking out the way the characters play - but I don't want a pile of plastic shit in my house on top of all the stuff I already have.  If it's actually required for gameplay like that Cars thing I'll refuse to even think about a purchase.

uDraw was a success?

It sold pretty amazingly on Wii. I might be misremembering but THQ was not doing so hot and then after uDraw (and others) they were much better. Then they released uDraw on PS360 and it tanked like an atom bomb and now THQ is pretty much dead.

It probably was but I believe the decision to make it the standard controller was because of their collab/partnership/whatever with THQ on it. I remember Iwata saying they wanted to make some first party games for it and it was awesome. Of course, those first party games probably became Wii U games.

Some of them will be.

But you can't tell me people are going to clamor to own every stupid little video game accessory and character of every stupid company.  I mean, let's look at this game, for example.  Are people going to buy the heart thing?  Maybe some people will buy Altair/Ezio, I guess.  Rabbids?  Maybe?  Just seems like a recipe for disaster.  Marvel and DC have trouble moving toys of anyone other than their top ten guys, but EA's gonna roll in the bank on James Pond?
Yeah I get what you are saying. The Marios will probably fetch some butt high price and you'd have rows of Gex : The Gecko returns shit stinking up shops.

Scamco would be distinguished mentally-challenged to not jump on NFC. They're a toy company, lol. But yeah, I see basically every third party who thinks they're cool, and maybe even a bunch of toy companies jumping in creating a glut of crap no one wants.
