The X-Men, one of the world’s most popular super hero teams, have always been at the forefront of the biggest stories in comic history, and today is no different as Marvel is proud to announce the wedding that has everyone talking! Today, fans worldwide learned on ABC’s "The View" that Jean-Paul Beaubier, aka Northstar, proposes to his boyfriend Kyle Jinadu in ASTONISHING X-MEN #50, on-sale May 23 in comic stores, on the Marvel Comics app and at the Marvel Digital Comics Shop. The creative team of New York Times best-sellers Marjorie Liu and Mike Perkins have put Northstar and Kyle’s relationship to the test—and now they’re about to take their biggest step yet. But will their path to wedded matrimony in New York City be smooth or are there hidden dangers around the corner?

I haven't read X-Men in years. Is there any general tension over mutant-human marriage? I'm imagining the mother of Beast's human fiance telling her "you're gonna have blue babies!" like that scene in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story

meanwhile, in the world of indie comics, 'Our Love is Real' features men fucking and marrying dogs, and no-one in mainstream media cares because they were not force-fed a handy cut-and-pasteable press release from Warner Bros or Disney

^ Real talk. I doubt he'll ever be given a break. This is just a classic exploitation of current events, as PD pointed out. Everyone will forget about him until people decide to rabble rabble about adoption again.

It's exploitation to a degree but also just catching up with the tokenism already rampant in every other form of culture

weddings in general tend to be boring times for most fans of superhero comics

it's just not a situation they can relate to at all, as opposed to flying around new york shooting lasers out of their arses at giant robots and shit

The wedding of Reed and Sue in FF Annual 3 says you are high

I've been to one wedding that didn't end in divorce: it was for a cousin I barely even know. She married a white dude lol

i was running the comic shop back when the character came out in alpha flight 106, the local news came by and got a quote

we had exactly one subscriber for alpha flight at the time and i was only ordering 2 copies for the stand - we probably could have sold 100 the next day from everyone coming in to speculate :lol

I've discovered that the larger the JAYSUS presence, the worse the wedding generally speaking.  Also, obviously the more booze the better.

This is true, but it's also annoying when the wedding is dominated by That Chick. You know, the hopelessly single sister or aunt of the bride who wants to control everything and make it "perfect" for her sister/niece/whatever. God dammit, I'm sitting here out of everyone's way eating, why do you have to get in my face telling me what to do, or asking who I am/why was I invited. I know the groom, gtfo my face

I will grant that 47 years ago there was a good superhero comic about a wedding.

Only because 1) Kirby and 2) it focused on the most interesting parts of any wedding - rowdy uninvited guests showing up and getting into fights

For me, it all depends on the food. Bad food = bad wedding, no question.

I go to so many tacky Italian weddings out here on the island, but at least the food is generally good :P
