ya, its the lack of upcoming games that worries me most.  If nintendo's own games are that far down the line then next year will be a bust as well.

pretty much

Everything shown is all we know about the system.  Wii teased future releases like Galaxy and Smash and Mario Kart and a whole bunch of games.

Wii U's known future is: Sakurai just started working on Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U.  For reference, Kid Icarus 3DS was shown E3 2009 and came out sometime earlier this year.  Smash Brothers Brawl was shown at E3 2006, similarly came out two years later.  If they're not even teasing it, pure conjecture, it's probably two or three years away.  Not to mention all of Nintendo's teams are working on new hardware for the first time in years.

Same problem Vita has, except at least with Nintendo you know there are reliable studios making games.

But when you start reading about the new games and start watching them and hearing about them, it's actually pretty exciting. And given all these games will be launch or launch window titles, it's actually set up a really nice potential lineup for the system on Day 1.

NSMBWii is destined to be fantastic, it's a 2D Mario game after all. It's hard to doubt Nintendo after the brilliance that was NSMBWii.

Pikmin 3 likewise. There's virtually no doubt that it'll be excellent. We have no reason to doubt Nintendo on this either.

ZombiU looks genuinely unique for a zombie game and a really good survival horror experience. Seriously, read more about it because it appears to be far from a tech demo. I still think it could end up disappointing, but so far the signs look pretty good.

Rayman Legends seems to be an exclusive. Origins was fantastic and this doesn't appear to be any different.

And P-100 just looks wonderful. Super stylized, crazy as shit and a really novel concept.

In fact, that's what I love about all these games. In the midst of an E3 where it seems every second game is a third/first person shooter with set-pieces galore, it's nice to see stuff that's unique and different. None of the above games are alike, except for Mario and Rayman (but let's be honest, you can never have too many platformers). And two of them are new IPs as well, which is always nice to see.

And right there is five potential must-have games for the system, and all maybe from Day 1. Of course, your tastes could differ from mine and you might not regard some of those games as highly, but there's still some real variety there. Most launches only have one or two must-owns. Some (3DS) don't even have any.

And they're all exclusives as well.

Yes, it's amazing - it's just that people are reacting negatively (as they should) to the rather underwhelming Nintendo conference. If that never existed, there'd be more hype.

Well in all fairness, Pikmin looked great, Kamiya's game looks cool, Rayman will be at least as good as origins (i.e. good), NSMBWiiU I'm indifferent about but will certainly be the best/system seller, and the jury is still out on the ZombiU game (80% sure it'll end up being shit though). It's the not the worst, and there's some variety. We obviously have the ports and the Lego too as well.

But it could have been much, much better, as there are missing notable games Ninthings were looking forward too. And the conference, oh god the conference, was a total shit. The self-awareness and whimsy oversaturation did nothing but make me cringe and deflate my excitement.

That being said, desperate thread is desperate. The existence of that thread is a testament that things went wrong.

Here's the thing- I honestly think that the NSMB game could be fun with multiple players n shit.

But it's not a $60 game.  It's not a $50 game.  I could probably see paying $30 for it, but it's honestly probably only worth $20.  There are too many quality options for any genre of gaming that are readily, cheaply and yes LEGALLY available on the pc to even pretend that consoles are fucking worth it anymore.  I don't think this is an industry in it's dying throes- videogames won't go away, even though it seems like the people making the decisions want to sell us everything except a fucking game.  But the business model of a stand-alone console/delivery vector for this kind of entertainment is over, it's just taking everyone too long to figure it out.  See everybody in 5 years when they have a clue, this is the last gen and that ain't a bad thing.

I just came back from E3, and I want to give my impressions on the game.

I'll save some time by saying I was really impressed. I know we saw the new trailer with improved backgrounds and such, but you all really need to see the game up close in motion to fully appreciate the difference. The animation is considerably improved and everything feels amazingly smooth. I don't know if the Wii U is capable of AA, but there was no aliasing whatsoever on the demo I played. One of the biggest problems with NSMB: Wii (which I suppose, to be fair, can be said about most Wii games) was that it amazingly jaggy, which made an already not really impressive looking game look even less pleasing. But NSMB: Wii U doesn't have that problem thankfully and looks all the better for it. While the NSMB games are obviously the base, the game has so many improvements in so many different areas that it almost feels like a completely different game.

As for the gameplay, the physics and controls are, unfortunately a lot closer to NSMB: Wii than the graphics were. The only new things so far are the squirrel suit, which is actually cooler than I thought it'd be, and the baby yoshis. The squirrel suit functions as basically the cape and raccoon did in SMW and SMB3, when it comes to slowly gliding down. It also gives Mario the ability to stick on walls for a few seconds. Baby Yoshi isn't particularly interesting. You can inflate him by shaking the Wii control, and he serves essentially the same purpose that the propeller suit had (except you can shake the control several times before he runs out of air). Fairly meh but whatever.

But overall, I'm SIGNIFICANTLY more excited over this than I was before today. Game's gonna be fucking AWESOME.

As for how powerful the Wii U appears to be? Well, I saw Assassin's Creed, Arkham Asylum, and Ninja Gaiden, and they all SEEMED about as good as what you'd expect on the 360/PS3, except that AC was REALLY choppy.

ZombiU actually has an interesting mechanical base to work from.  It just suffers from looking amateur hour and Im not convinced they can spread the interesting mechanics out over an an entire acceptable length of time.

ZombiU gameplay:

Doesn't look as bad as I thought technically. But tunneled area, keycards, monster closets (literally), not very inspired.

Still I will never understand people who are hyped for and will be buying Batman or ME3 on the Wii U. Yeah it looked cool with new control scheme but it's the same damn game. There's not even an exclusive DLC or something.

Waste of 60 bucks.

Borys, Borys, Borys what are you talking about. The team at WB have been working very hard at providing new content. Sure it takes place in Arkham, and the characters are all the same but there's exclusive suits and cowls!

P-100 does look great.  Pikmin 3 looks great too.  NSMBU looks surprisingly good compared to the 3DS one, but I might already be burnt out on that specific type of Mario game.  It's not a crazy notion when its following the 3DS with big Nintendo launch game: Steel Diver.

And a lot of people made up their minds way before E3.  Who's going to get a PS3/360/PC now after avoiding them for six years for Nintendo? so that it's more like a "help me validate my opinion" thread.

ZombiU sounded good when I heard of the concept but the videos I've seen are pretty shoddy.  It's probably still early assuming Killer Clowns was scrapped after last E3 and it's been under a year in development.  The 'gameplay' trailer Ubi showed at Nintendo's conference was all fake gameplay CG.

Killer Freaks IS ZombiU. Ubisoft confirmed that at their presser that the dev team decided to change it up. Reportedly the game's had an awful development cycle so far with staff bouncing everywhere.

Pikmin 3 looks great too.

Does it really? I'm not doubting that it will be a competent game gameplay wise, but it's looks very similar to the original games and is imo graphically a disappointment.

I don't care much about the graphics.  For gameplay it's unclear what they're adding, but it seemed like even more commanders, similar to Pikmin 2.  I'm judging on the basis of "Pikmin 1&2 were good."  Most important is the potential online for multiplayer.  If they came out and said local multiplayer only, I wouldn't be nearly as interested.

The whole ZombiU dick sucking is mind boggling, at least for a non-ntard like myself.  If it was graphically impressive and going beyond what's out there I could understand but it's not.  Not at all.  It looks decidedly average, and the gameplay sounds decidedly average.   Ubi releases this anywhere else and it'd end up completely forgotten.

You've got seemingly infinitely more interesting stuff coming out around the same time as this warmed over turd like Sleeping Dogs, Dishonored, Halo 4, Resident Evil 6,  etc. but ZombiU is getting all this attention because it's the only turkey in an empty shop.

Maybe. But I think a lot of the stuff they built up over the years (non-games) have found a perfect home on iOS and there is nothing Nintendo can do to get them back. We'll see.
