That was ok. I have no doubt this will have at least a good soundtrack though, but more because of the other artist. Hamauzu was good, but the other guys on XIII-2's soundtrack really put out some great tracks.

I don't agree. Hamauzu was the pinnacle of both XIII's soundtracks, but the other two are damn good on their own. They're also working with him on LR, so I'm looking forward to another brilliant soundtrack.

who cares? this game was advertised as an action rpg when it was first revealed, action rpgs don't need multiple characters and more than that, some of the best rpgs only have a few party members to choose from.

Famitsu this week has new details on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Here’s the bullet summary:

Lightning’s new costume is designed by Tetsuya Nomura.
You’ll be able to change Lightning’s costume and costume color during the game.
Time is always flowing, except for when your menu is open on the field.
Every NPC’s whereabouts and actions will constantly change.
Certain information can only be obtained at specific times.
Lightning is the only playable character.
Lightning uses “Styles” in battle. Each Style consists of a certain weapon, shield, accessories, and abilities.
You can customize Lightning’s appearance and ability considerably.
By defeating monsters, Lightning can earn points to increase her available time, and items to strengthen her equipment.
The battle system name has not yet been determined. Right now, they’re calling it the “Amazing ATB” battle system. Rest assured, it’s tentative.
Though you’re only controlling one character, it feels as if you’re fighting with multiple, according to the mag.
Monsters appear even in the city.
Black haze will appear in specific areas at certain times. The new area will become monster territory.
Half of the game’s monsters are new.
The game’s conclusion can be experienced straight from the package. (No download content will need to be purchased, unlike Final Fantasy XIII-2.)
Kitase guarantees you’ll be satisfied by the outcome of previous games’ characters’ stories.

Could be a good combat system if they give you a lot of control over it (and if the difficulty level actually forces you to use the system to its fullest.)  This is positive news.

Game can be "cleared" in 2-4 days according to some japanese website. That's bad

EDIT: in-game days not real life days. 1 in-game day is like 4 realtime hours so still very shitty.

12 hours for a jrpg? Oh man even Resident Evil 6 is longer then 

nah better turn my hope to Monolith Soft for a real jrpg these days.

Will probably be 20-25 hours like XIII-2, which is fine with me. Don't really want a 60+ hour game here. All that matters is that a game is good. Games like Xenoblade and Persona 4 are really good, but I get bored around the middle and replaying them feels like a hassle. I've already replayed The Last Story because it's pretty short and the game did'nt feel like it had filler.

20 hours and FFXIII style is only good b/c it doesn't overstay its welcome.   Unless it's XIII-I and it's just starting at 20 hours in and you only keep going b/c you were waiting 50 years for it to come out and you never got any info on it or saw anything about it until people started streaming the Japanese version.  And you watched those streams and you thought to yourself "hmm, they seem to be walking down hallways quite a bit" and you reassure yourself that you're just catching the hallway parts.  But no, after 20 hours, you realize IT'S ALL FUCKING HALLWAYS and just when you think you can't take it anymore, you get a field to run around in and the full battle system.

Yeah people say this a lot, but I thought pretty much after you get to Pulse the game goes downhill. Sure having a more open world is nice, but Pulse sucks and there's nothing really interesting on it. The Tower and Fang and Van's home being about the only cool places. I also thought the battle system was a bit more fun with just two people, since you had to do more to kill enemies faster.

Even XIII-2 is kind of fun when you only use two people.

i didn't like much of it leading up to there since the gameplay seemed incidental...you don't even need to upgrade weapons or anything.   Pulse didn't really make up for it, I was already pretty pissed at the game, then the chapters after were more hallways.

I wish this played like a Kingdom Hearts rather than some weird evolution of the 13/13-2 system (which is the impression I get from the trailer)

This would be my most hyped game if it was Lightning flying around using the Flow Motion system from KH:3D. God I want to dodge roll into that street light so bad...

ff13-2 was pretty good. But the story was probably worst ever in a FF game and that says a lot about the games script. Also, Noel and Serah were dull as hell. This isnt a game that you ever want to go back to.

Not going lie, I'll enjoy dressing Lightning up in silly battle outfits way more then I'm willing to admit. Anyway the game sounds fun, basically a new Kingdom Hearts. Fun action rpg + terrible story
