dude, i gave never denied bein' a hick. i like the p226 because it's easy to maintain, has a good grip and tight trigger throw for my very average white boy mitts, and is a fun and accurate range shooter.

looked at a couple glock 19's, which are cheaper and lighter and equally reliable, but ehhhhhhhhhh.

p226 or no p226 all that matters is barrel length.  as with +p+ not being any more effective it depends, +p+ has no set in stone guidelines to it, they vary from brand to manufacturer.  but velocity is velocity, you'd have to look up raw data for the specific round you were interested in.

tldr myself i just go with +p's, they're not nearly as harsh on your gun and do the job.  another trap is getting 147 grain bullets, which tend to over penetrate walls and exit bodies before expanding all the way.  keep in mind that none of this is necassarily FACT but just what i think after reading and watching and shooting a bunch of shit. bullets do weird things, man...

Just got paged in, sorry.

I'll be honest, I've never known all that much about ammo.  I just throw what's cheap through my Sig Blackwater 1911 at some paper, and keep it loaded with whatever hollow point rounds the shop had at the time.  I've only needed the one box, though I'm thinking about ordering something a little nicer and just shooting through what I have.  It's been sitting around for a couple years, and I don't like that too well.

Good call on the Sig.  I'm a fanboy myself, so I'm glad you didn't go with a glock.  Now given, glocks will shoot come hell or high water (literally, there was a test and even when packed with sand, the fucking thing shoots), but I just hate the aesthetics of it.  Looks like a blocky piece of shit.  I'll stick to my Sigs, thanks.  Just sold my Sig P6 9mm about a year or so back, and from what I hear it's doing pretty well in its new home.

The thing that SOME people don't realize is that you actually have to maintain your guns.  Yeah, it's a tool.  But if you throw your screwdriver out in the elements and never clean it, will it get messed up?  Yup.  If you leave your saw in the bed of your truck for a year or twelve, will it cut right?  Nope.  I've never had a single issue out of any of my guns due to use or wear.  Not a speck of rust or discoloration.  Because I actually clean my weapons.  Regularly.  Shit like that doesn't happen if you care for your stuff.

Imma go get my baby out of the car and post up a picture.  Gimme a minute or two.

I agree about the ammo.  Unless you're competition shooting I don't think it makes much of a difference to the average person.  A good gun should be eating any type of ammo anyways.  My Colt and Springfield will eat any brand I throw at it.  But now I reload my ammo so now I give even less fucks about brands.

She's beautiful, and never a single problem out of her.  Custom handmade leather holster from a place out of Frankfort, Ky.
[close]

Dead on Mups.  If you're having issues firing a certain brand out of your weapon, the issue isn't the brand.  Now given, the cheaper the ammo the more misfires you might have.  I know that a good portion of the big 550 rd boxes of .22lr that I buy for $10 or so aren't going to be the most dependable.  But if you're having constant problems (1/2+), you might wanna take the poor guy to the gun doc.  Which is something that I need to do with my GSG-5, when I next think about it.

the trigger action on the p226 -- at least the double step -- requires a bit more pressure than i'm used to (p7, glock 19, cz-75) but that's probably okay given that i'm a spaz and there's no safety on the p226

that's definitely not a bad idea.  When you get some of the basics that they teach you can look online at guides/videos for any other model you might get and you can finish it pretty easily.  It might save from some mistakes like the "idiot mark" on my 1911.

the DA trigger pull on a P226 is pretty heavy but if it does end up bothering you later (after you become more accustomed to it) you can either take it to a smith and have a trigger job done on it or there are some home fixes you can do to lighten the trigger pull.  I personally find a 3.5# trigger pull the sweet spot on my handguns.

Another good idea is to youtube how to disassemble your gun.  Sounds silly, but there are a lot of REALLY good step-by-step videos on there about it, anyone can do it.  Unless they've been drinking wine all night, and end up trying to put their 1911 back together wrong, amirite Groogrux?

If you want a cheap rifle MAF, look into Mosin Nagants.  Buy it for 75, shoot it till you're done, and throw it away.   :lol  The downside is that ammo is harder to come by as opposed to some other rifles, as if I recall correctly it only takes Russian make rounds.

M4s are fairly common, easy to build.  You can do a decent variation of a .223 rifle about however you want it.  What are you going for, up close paper killin', or proving you can shoot a guy in the dick at 150 yards?

If you just want a bolt action targeter, hell, get a .22lr.  They're super cheap, fun as hell, and accurate.  Low-no recoil, and just all around useful.  Also, for added wild westing, look into lever action .22lr.

+1 on the .22lr suggestion.  Especially if it's just going to be for S&G's.  .22 is so cheap that you can't go wrong.

But for me personally, I need a little oomph behind it when I'm pretending that I'm COD'ing it out and pretending I'm sniping Nazis from 300 ft away.  And for that I turn to a 30.06 bolt action rifle.

Is the training mandatory?  If not, I might suggest purchasing your firearm first and then finding a class where you can bring your rifle so you can ask specific questions
