Kind of on-topic: I think the larger companies will eventually come around and lose their resistance to offering in-house controller peripherals to their phones/tablets, too. Nothing built in that would add bulk to the devices, but certainly controller cradles for phones or bluetooth controllers for tablets which officially provide the option (like third parties are already offering). Once they realize they've essentially been ignoring a steady stream of money from that particular segment, that is.

Windows 8 tablets support Xbox controllers, FYI

So the Staples around the corner from me had these in earlier this week and I picked one up

http://www.thebore.com/forum/index.php?topic=38675.msg1532520#msg1532520

Pretty, pretty, pretty good. Nice screen, really sharp with 1280x800 at 7". Nice back texture, grips well. Solidly built, I haven't had any of the various issues anyone's reported. Jelly Bean is a LOT smoother than ICS, still get the occasional stutter here or there but much less frequently than on ICS. Tegra 3 makes games fly (Android games lol). That Google voice search/command thing is pretty fucking awesome. I do miss having a rear camera, on something this small I actually would be apt to take shots here or there. If they do a refresh with a rear camera next year I'll probably sell this one and get that. They dropped Flash support with Jelly Bean, but you can sideload it into Firefox for Android. I haven't rooted it yet, but I'm going to so I can get rid of the soft keys at the bottom (they are permanent on the Nexus, because evidently Google wisdom is you won't miss that 1/4" of screen on your tiny 7" tablet) and add USB flash drive support.

It's a neat kickaround device, not perfect but miles above any other Android tablet thing I've messed with.

Yeah, if there was a fantastic controller with a functioning, approved API which allowed seamless support, Nintendo's currently shitting brickstream would convert to sideways bricks.

I guess I mean Apple and Google produced controller, something with the weight of full-on manufacturer approval. But that thing's pretty neat looking.

Impressions:

- Performance wise this is kicking my GN's ass even with basically the same specs. :bow Jellyean :bow2
- The animations are really jarring at first, but they're nice after a while.
- Some of the apps I went to redownload aren't available. :| LOOKING AT YOU CITIBANK AND VIZ COMICS
- This thing is a lot heavier than I thought it'd be, which isn't totally a bad thing. Inside the cheap $4 fake leather case I got for it, it feels like a book.
- Wallpapers from Wallbase look like crap and don't fit the screen, lame. Plus there are only like three live wallpapers here instead of like 6 or 7 on my GN.
- The screen is really nice. The Bore zoomed out is harder to read than on my GN though, thanks to the lower PPI. Otherwise it's fantastic and puts all my non-Android electronics to shame.
- Volume keys being on the right is effing with my muscle memory from my GN.
- Battery life is off the fricking hook omg. :o

This thing is basically my dedicated comics/magazine reader now, and for $200-250 you can't go wrong even if you only use it for a couple things like that.

I wish it was 32GB and had 3G instead, but beggars can't be choosers. This thing is ultra-portable and I can't wait to tug it with me everywhere I go, will take the strain off my GN and hopefully I won't have to worry about its battery as much now.

Unlocked, rooted, installed LMT and Button Savior, Navbar can fuck off forever. Gonna get a USB OTG cable next and install Stickmount.

Shit like this makes me glad I waited, was about to pull the trigger on one the other day.  I really dig adopting stuff around the 2nd iteration on these days.

The built in microphones work fine (there's 2 of them for noise reduction, and they are super-sensitive) but you can't put it in your pocket or anything if you want to skype hands-free. Just a dumb thing to omit.

I bit on this for my first tablet.  I'm still in school and needed an android device for work (a job I just got hired on for by the way, full-time!) and I just bought it as a congrats/belated birthday present.  16 gig model.  I'm excited for it to get here.

This thing is so effing good for comics. :uguu

Blazing through my comic backlog. Getting through volumes 5-16 of TWD in two days was heaven.

Only problem is the two page spreads but those are uncommon so it isn't that bad.

It's great for magazines that have been optimized (interactive), haven't tried the non-optimized ones though. Books are pretty good, decent enough selection for me. Gonna ditch all my physical books and comics now.

What apps do you guys have for this thing? So far all I have are the basics like Netflix, Hulu Plus, and a couple of games I already had (GTA3, Max Payne, emulators, Dosbox, etc.)

Had mine for a couple days now, it's a great tablet but too bad it's going straight to the trash once Apple announces their iPad Mini or whatever. At least for my uses, the App Store shits on Google's Play Store in terms of great tablet app offerings.

Get the amazon market app for that daily free app. Kindle and Aldiko for ereaders. Comicrack and Perfect Viewer if you give a shit about comics. Freenote for handwriting combined with text typing for notes. Smart Office if you want to do some light work. Firefox if you want to sideload flash. Podkicker if you listen to a lot of podcasts. Zen Pinball, Pinball Arcade, Shadowgun, Jazz: Trump's Adventure are all good games.

Ooh Freenote is nice, thanks for the reco!

I completely forgot I had Zen Pinball THD maybe from like a past promo or something. works a lot better here than on the HP Touchpad I had.

Here's something cool. If you have a spare Sixaxis or Dual Shock controller (or one thats gathering dust alongside your PS3, lol) grab this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller&hl=en

It syncs the Sixaxis to the tablet via Bluetooth so you can use it with any app that supports joypad control. Tested it out with SNES9X (free, here: http://www.explusalpha.com/home/snes9x-ex) and it works pretty great though there is some noticeable input lag that I imagine can be alleviated by dicking around with the settings.

So I was thinking about getting one of these when my school refunds come back, but did I read correctly that it won't load my .epub books or any other manually downloaded books?  Cause I have a lot and I want to be able to read them on it.  I would probably ditch my Nook Touch for this to read on if I can load my books to it.

And how is it for downloading .doc and .pdf files?  I would need them for a few of my classes.

Bought the 16gig model yesterday.  Has anyone picked up the tablet text app?  Looks like a cool way to send /receive texts while I'm at home without having both devices on me at all times.  Just wondering if it's worth the $2.99 of my free $25. :lol

Google Play is doing a thing for reaching 25 billion downloads. For the next week, every day they'll have a new selection of apps/games (not sure about books and movies) for 25 cents each. First batch should be up a little later today.
