Or is Nintendo screwing the "early" adopters with yet another revision (with the extra analogue built in) not so far into the future? 3DS XL PLUS

HMMMMMMMMMMM

I want one for Castlevania (though the game looks like shit)

Uh. Maybe no.

The next proper iteration is just around the corner. That said, the 3ds is the most powerful three dimensional handheld out there.

3DS is pretty lame though, in general, no revision will make it more powerful.

Buy a Vita.

I want one so I can play another practically identical Professor Layton game, and also what might be the only/best high budget 3DS game to come out in America (RE:Revelations).

Ignoring the same old Nintendo properties, there are lesser known but cool games on the 3DS.  And if you want the same old Nintendo games or ports, there are more quality games.

If you think you can justify spending (the price of the 3DS XL) for the games you're interested in, why not.  If there is another revision, we're talking a year away and probably not a "XL" version.  If you want the big screen, all you gain from waiting is a meager price drop or whatever holiday bundles/deals roll out in November/December.

Neither handheld is "on fire" at the moment.  The 3DS XL "relaunch" has NSMB2...and that's it.

It's a sure bet that there will be another 3DS model released later on, but I wouldn't let that stop you from getting an XL.  Check the releases and see if it really seems worth it.  Same with the Vita.

Which games are these? I already have Shadow Wars and Theatrhythm sitting in my shelf, and I was also planning on picking up Pushmo.

Shinobi, as mentioned above (don't know about Rhythm Thief--didn't like the demo).  Pushmo is a quality puzzle game.  I picked up Sakura Samurai this past weekend and it's fun.  (If you don't have a PSP) Crush.

...I didn't say there were many 'lesser known but cool' games.

Well, you could include Cave Story and VVVVVV too if you want portable versions.  I played both on PC.

my advice is don't pay full price for a 3ds xl or a vita, their time on this earth will be very limited compared to their predecessors

you could always wait a bit and see if they drop the price or run bundle deals for the original 3ds, unless you really have your heart set on the larger screens

It was my first Wayforward game, so I'm unaware of their M.O. (I'm going to assume it has something to do with 16bit style over substance).

I thought it was ok-ish, nice mechanics and all, but on the short side. Unless you go for perfect scores/times, I don't think it's worth the asking price. I heard they released some free DLC, though. Just keep in mind that it's a puzzler first, a platformer second. Oh and barebones presentation. It's kinda built like an iOS game, really.

Well the reason I ask is because this weekend it's half the normal asking price.  And yes, Wayforward generally makes shallow/poor games with great presentations.

Probably a pass, then.  From videos it looked like the main gimmick is taken from Mario Galaxy's switch levels.  Maybe not a pass, then.

another random question:  is it true you can't copy save data between systems? so if I get a 3DS XL in the future, I can transfer my game but not the save data?

You'd have to be pretty dumb to buy a Vita at this point in time.  Dying or not, it won't be staying at its current price terribly far into the future.

I guess you're right. It's just so nice though.

that's right.  games transfer over, saves do not.

That's a shame.  Good thing Mighty Switch Force is only about an hour long!

It's actually pretty(,) fun for what it is.  I've maybe played half an hour or so and there are only four levels left.  Feels iOS-ish, shallow fun; reminds me of Gravity Run.  If that Wii U HD one is a fully baked game it could be great.

There's a 99% chance it's going to be better than NSMB2 at least, and some people in my OT said they liked it better than the Galaxy games.

I also want to throw this out there:  SantaC, you are the worst kind of fan there is.  You've complained so many times about MercurySteam and their brand of Castlevania, you've publicly pined for IGA's return, and when the Lords of Shadow 3DS was announced/shown you had nothing but terrible things to say about it.  All of which is fine, in my books.  But now you're going to buy it?  For real?

I can understand buying MercurySteam's first CV game, after all, we didn't know how they would fare, but you didn't like it at all.  You've been very loud about that.  And now you're going to go ahead and buy the next one, even with you thinking it looks bad and is not the direction you want the series to go.  You're complaining as loud as you can but giving Konami your money all the same.

People like you are why the publishers think they can do whatever the damn hell they want.  Get some frigging dignity.

I don't even know SantaC but
