I compromised by adding LA Noire to my Wishlist. If someone else buys it for me for $5 ... that's the right price ;D

I cannot stress enough that if you haven't played the Thief games, today is a steal. I played T1 and 2 for the first time earlier this year and they still hold up. And while they're never going to look like a modern game, you can mod up the resolution, textures, and object models to a baseline level of decency.

I like them better. A lot more open and more freedom in playing through levels. Get ready to save-scum, though.

Thief 1 has some HUGE levels (like 2-3 hours to playthrough) that are frustrating at the time but wonderful in memory. It also has more magical/fantasy elements.

Thief 2 is a bit more steampunk and a bit more "get into the house, get the loot, get out" - though it has a few levels that mix that up a bit, of course.

Better. Not that Thief 3 is a bad game or anything*. And I used to like 2 more than 1...like a decade ago.

I tested Thief 1 and oh man the idiosyncratic default controls are GREAT. I probably can't play with them today.

also, the games run fine, Bebpo. You don't even need to launch steam to play them.

*I wanted to add that sometimes gaf people lump it together with Invisible War and I think that's incorrect. Thief 3 is a good game.

Mechanically it's probably the best. The beginning is stronger and they both kinda fall a part at the end. But Shadows of Chernobyl has better locations and places you go IMO and the plot thread it follows it more interesting. CoP doesnt really have much in the way of science labs, which were the best thing about SoC.

Risen 2 doesn't even have a normal discount, I'd be surprised if it dropped below that.

Hmmm. TEXP, I said that the pc versions of the GTA games are fine, but I mostly talking about the ps2 versions. GTAIV for pc is a monster and requires a quad core to run great, and even then, people with the same rig set ups have varying results. On the other hand, you have the GTAIV expansions, which run a lot better. I didn't realize the GTA pack came with IV because past GTA packs iirc didn't.

haha finally finding a scope in STALKER SoC is a wonderful moment after hours of aiming by your shit pistol's iron sights.

and crouching is one thing; crouch-crouching is another. You don't prone in STALKER. There's a normal crouch button and a crouch modifier to crouch lower. So, standing isn't necessarily your baseline.

This reminds me of Fallout 3 versus Fallout New Vegas talk. Fallout 3/SoC have more standout moments and purpose, but New Vegas/CoP feel more like ordinary living in these cool worlds. I prefer the CoP/NV style more.

NFS runs like shit on my PC.

NFS doesn't run like shit for me but it doesn't run optimal. Like, the optimization is fucking shit. "High resolution textures" that's it. No AA settings, no AF, no low, medium, high, just high res textures and motion blur. What the fuck.

In any case SR3 kinda set it in motion but I want to make a gaming rig. I need to prep for next gen, and with Unreal Engine 4 coming next year...whoo boy, gotta get busy.

the first one is a creepy exploring game
the third one is a fun "open world" game

third (call of pripyat) is the easiest to get into and least janky, too.

also, I think if you buy the first (shadow of chernobyl), you get an extra discount on the third. People are saying CoP is $5 but it shows $3.74 to me.
