I decided to skip on this for now and sprung for a Kindle instead. The release schedule Nintendo put out assured me I wouldn't benefit in the slightest from owning a 3DS this year.

I'm getting one in a few weeks. Then we can play that one game together online! There is an online game for the 3DS, isn't there?

Devil Survivor is one of my favorite DS games, so you should definitely grab that if you haven't played it yet. Theatrhythm is worth it if you're a big fan of the music. The gameplay in itself isn't revolutionary or anything.

Edit: Here is what I got with it, plus Pullblox (Pushmo) from the 3DS eShop.

If I still had my old DS I probably would've held off a few more months before getting a 3DS XL. Being able to play my backlog of DS games was the primary reason I got one.

Getting an XL with NSMB2 tomorrow.  If the XL is as uncomfortable to hold as the 3DS was, I'll be selling the system and all my games off.

Here's my 3DS/DS stuff:

I have two 3DS games but nothing to play them on. :(

What's been holding me back: No MonHun. If 3G was localized the 3DS would have three major third party games I'd really want (MGS, KH, MH) in addition to the staple of Nintendo stuff I secretly get off on.

Of course a main Pokemon game would make me get it ASAP.

For the XL specifically I'm sort of holding off until its CPP gets shown.

The CPP was entirely useless except for one game (RE Revelations)

you -can- play MH3G quite easily without it and i can only see it being an issue when you get to some of the late end fights where you absolutely need to be running one way, whilst seeing what the monster is doing, whilst preparing your next trap/bomb etc.

I just love that feeling in MH3 running, panning the camera around, queing up and item, while reading their animation and movement. Multitasking made awesome.

As much "stick" as The Claw gets for being "painful" etc - even when polishing off the end of 3rdP on the Vita i still preferred to play with the claw than have the second stick mapped to camera.

The speed our team got giant bomb creation from scratch down whilst running around was pretty epic

Claw for life.

Nothing beats complete control over the camera and seeing what the monster is doing at all times. Thats why the "center behind" view never clicked with me.

It makes playing Kingdom Hearts a lot less of a hassle, too.  I haven't tried it with Snake Eater because Metal Gear is shittiest of shit, but surely it helps things out there, right?  MGS uses every button on a PS2 controller and then some, I can't imagine mapping everything onto one less stick and fewer buttons worked out all that well.

I tried the CPP with the Snake Eater demo and preferred the game without it.  The changed-up Peace Walker controls work better.

Not even sure if the CPP really made Revelations that much better...I only used it because it made the 3DS a hell of a lot more comfortable to hold.

No, it doesn't. They were planning on putting it in, but the dev team ran out of time or money.

If you prefer home consoles and want to play Metal Gear, you might want to get a PS2/PS3 instead.

Picked up a Mickey Mouse pants 3DS XL from Gamestop.  Nobody else was in there for the system...reminds me of the 3DS launch from last year.  So I was in and out of there in just a few minutes.  They told me that I could NOT get $100 store credit for bringing the old 3DS in later, contrary to what others have said elsewhere- the $100 trade-in deal is for the time of the system purchase only.

And this data transfer process is really annoying.  I don't need to go through what feels like 10 "are you sure you want to transfer?  Are you really sure?  You said yes, but are you SURE?" prompts.

Really like Resident Evil. Just what I wanted to sooth me over until RE6.

It's really good.  I don't like the Mercenaries-style mode as much the Mercenaries from RE4/5/3D however, since it's a lot slower-paced.

Some games look better than others blown-up.  SSF4 looks AWFUL this way (like playing the iPhone version) and was still cramping my left hand, but I'm chalking it up to it just being that game.  Nothing else is doing that.

3DS Red is same color as Virtual Boy Red, you know I had to get that shit.

Seems a little darker and more metallic than VB red.

Some of the 3DS games just look terrible blown-up this way.  Text is also awful.   :-\

But the older DSi and Virtual Console games look great when played in 1:1 mode and the system definitely feels more comfortable in my hands, so it's a keeper.

This is one hell of an over-hyped system upgrade, from looking at some other boards.  It's nowhere near what the DS to DS Lite update was like.

I tried taking a pic but it's harder to notice that way- the text is just blurrier when blown up...the lower res is obviously much-more noticeable on the larger screens.

It blinks for other stuff too.  And you'd still have to message the other person and hope they either bother to check, or start playing the same game as you and go into the multiplayer mode.

My local GS doesn't have Internet access and they couldn't do anything about it, so I had to walk out with all my games on the old 3DS. I'm pissed.

Yup; wireless connection is needed for the beginning of the system transfer.

Some GAFfots have said that their Gamestops let people buying the XL, then come back with the 3DS to get $100 in trade-in credit, but the store I went to said they wouldn't do that.  But who knows; Gamestop employees didn't know that they were supposed to offer free copies of Steel Diver or Pilotwings with the systems, either.  -_-

Shaka- take following steps:

1. Make sure that the firmware is up to date on both systems and that each is plugged in or fully-charged.
2. Copy the contents of your 2GB 3DS SD card to the 4GB SD card that comes in the XL.
3. Put the 4GB card into the old 3DS and leave the XL empty.
4. Start the transfer process.
5. Press "OK" on 40 different menus.
6 Your shit will copy over.  It takes a while.
7. At the end you can take the 4GB card and put it into the XL.
8. Your original 3DS will be restored to factory settings.

You'd also be waiting in that Gamestop for a quite a while to do that transfer.  The whole thing is stupid and it IS Nintendo's fault for having no actual accounts to use.  Just buy the XL and sell the old one on Craigslist or whatever if you don't want to take less for a regular trade-in.
