How is Skylanders?  Anybody tried it?  I understand the 3DS version is a bit more platform-y/interesting than the console/PC versions which look like they play a bit too much like the Lego games.  Classic Game Room liked the 3DS version more.
I'm mostly interested cos the StarCon2 guys worked on it and some of the gameplay hooks are pretty reminiscent of Starcon2.

Resident Evil is good, but it hasn't really felt much like Resident Evil.

How so?  It reminded me of the older RE games with an RE4/RE5 perspective.

And Raid Mode is really where it's at!

Scanning around for hidden items is  ??? Like, theres no point to that entire system.

Dodging is, well, dodgy. I can never get it to trigger.

I love being able to strafe and move while aiming, etc.

I've always preferred the Mansion setting, or a factory, etc. Over some derelict boat. There's just nothing "secretive" or mysterious about that. It's a boat. Where are you gonna hide the secrets? Nothing will ever top the Spencer Mansion, to me.

Parker's fat face puts me off, too. You'd think otherwise, but he's like modeled wrong or something.

Mario 3DLand is pretty easy but goddamn, once you get Luigi its like a brand new fucking game

Nah the "harder" levels had zero creativity and made levels harder by adding time limits and shit. Not to take away from the original levels

Really? I haven't finished all the extra stages (up to SP world 4) but so far I've been really enjoying it, as in the levels are reasonably difficult and well designed.

This was my first 3DS game actually. It's really nothing special. The game lasts 5 hours if you don't buy the expansion stuff. I'm sure you could do worse, but if you already have Mario 3D Land and a few others games I'd go through those first.

Thanx for the tip.  I think I'll give it a shot - there are a couple of dolls I want, so the playtime should be extended.  I really hate this doll crap though.

Finished Resident Evil... it was pretty shit. Hardly worth the name Resident Evil.

Started playing Zelda 3D... I really like this one. Great remake.

I'm at world 7 in 3D Land.  This is kind of a goofy game in terms of how it is designed.  Getting all three star coins in each level isn't really difficult.  You pretty much need a Tanooki Suit at all times though if you want to get them.  Which is kind of painful sometimes as they don't hand them out as readily as you'd think in these stages.  I've been playing maybe 2-3 levels a night before going to sleep.

I've also played quite a bit of NSMB2 and I'm going to have to call out all you dorks who said this was a bad or a mediocre game.  This is actually a pretty good game and I'm enjoying this game more than I did NSMB Wii overall.  It's a solid B+ game for sure.

I've been playing a bit of Samurai Warriors.  Pretty decent game but I want to get through some other games first.  For instance, I never got far in Zelda OOT.  I got to that one village after the tree level and that is it.  I want to beat this game and see if the vociferous laudations still stand.

It starts off pretty mediocre and is not as good as 3D Land.

I gotta disagree...it was a good game.  I like the much-faster paced RE5 more, but this was a good portable entry.

I wish I could sell off all my Wii games, but most of them (and the system) are Japanese, so nobody cares.  Thinking I might just bring the games to sell off next time I'm over there.  Will likely keep the Wii for the few games I think are worth it.

Do you have the Japanese version of Metoid: Other M? I'd be happy to take that off your hands! :D

Nah, the U.S. version.  Last Japanese release I got was Punch-Out!!.  Then I installed CFW and started getting American games.

Can you install CFW on newer Wiis to play Japanese games? I'd really like to try Gundam 0079 at some point.

Ex Troopers.
Yatagarasu(yeah i am gonna pimp this game as much as i can)
SMT4
DQM:Terry's Wonderland
Etrian Odyssey IV
Medabots 7(better than pokemon games imo)
Monster hunter 4
Pheonix Wright VS Layton
Pheonix Wright(the new one)
Culdcept
Fire Emblem

Maybe you hate sequels?  I am just curious why these are off your radar considering you have a 3ds aswell.

No idea how they did, my numbers don't go back that far under a certain sales threshold.  They can't have been very good though, if Natsume didn't bother with the DS games.

They were interested in them, but then ... nothing. Given this is Natsume they probably would've launched them last year (they were mid-2010 releases in Japan), and DS retail wasn't that kind in North America anymore. Or at least that's what I say to myself for hope.  :'( They've shown interest in 7 as well but as DS shows interest doesn't mean localization.

I don't generally care for RPGs.

But I definitely forgot some stuff.  I'm certainly interested in:

-EX Troopers (was this announced outside of Japan?)
-Monster Hunter 3G (I'm gonna forget that MH4 even exists since who the hell knows when we'll get in English)
-Ace Attorney 5

Dunno about the PW/Layton game.  If it's like PW, yeah.  But the Layton games have never interested me.

I'd be more hyped for Yatagarasu if it had online play.  If it's just gonna end up a 3DS port of the three(?) year old fighting game with local multi, it's gonna be worthless.

Yeah, i figured something like that.  I was curious because there were all these awesome RPG's i wanted to play that was coming for the 3ds.

PW/Layton looks to be a mix i think, but the tgs demo only showed the Pheonix Wright parts.

True about Yatagarasu i have my fingers crossed for the online play.

On your first point, again, I'm not talking about the actual speed of the games when I say they feel like a drag.  And yes, "from what I hear".  What would you like me to say?  I haven't played them, but I have heard from many people that Black and White shook up the single player a bit more than they usually do.  Is that not true?  Is it an issue for me to say that?

Just seems disingenuous when if I said the same thing I'd be gangraped by everyone on this forum faster than you can say "Borderlands 2 sounds like more of the same."

As for BW2, my son has it, and so do a few of my students.  My son, who is completely Poketarded and has put more than a hundred hours into BW2 said it's more or less the same thing as BW.  For him, that's fine.  For you, that's fine.  For people who skip Pokemon because it feels like it just spins its wheels from installment to installment, it's not fine.

I'd question what your son finds "more of the same." I mean, yeah, it's the same generation, so there's no new Pokemon and it's the same region. So for someone who only really understands the surface aesthetics of the series, yeah, it's more of the same. But by that definition, every single generation is "OMG totally new!!" and third versions are "WTF this is the same old crap." There's more nuance than that.

As for the Post Game/Battle Frontier stuff, I believe you, but I question the wisdom of hiding the interesting, new, hardcore content behind 25 hours of the same old shit.  I realize, again, that's not a problem for you or the fans of Pokemon, but for everyone else, saying "dude, there's great content that may be of interest to you, all you have to do is clear the main game.  How's the main game?  Oh pretty much the same as it always is, why?" is not going to bring smiles to faces.  Can Nintendo just throw a skip button in there or something?

The single player being the same archetype from game to game is only a problem if you want to play every single game. People complaining about Pokemon being the same old, same old, but haven't played it, or haven't played it in a while, is who I don't understand.

And yeah, BW made a concerted effort to change things up a bit. Gold/Silver also changed things up too (in comparison to R/S and D/P) by way of being sequels, among other things. B2W2 being sequels means they can go a bit farther in changing things, too. For Pokemon, the "same old same old" means having a new generation, with a batch of new monsters, and a single new region and villainous team. B2W2 deviate from that, so I question your son's understanding of the series. He probably only meant there aren't new Pokemon, but that isn't the conversation we're having right now.

Borderlands 2 is the first sequel to a 2009 game.  Poke'mon has had at least 6-8 games. That comparison makes no sense.

You can only make that comparison if Borderlands 10 comes out and it's literally the same thing as BL but with more guns and slower combat. But more than that, BL is a LOOT game, which doesn't really change much from game to game. On the other hand, Poke'mon is a traditional rpg, among the most varied of genres. Though they're both rpgs, Poke'mon offers more flexibility because it's not about finding new loot every few hours. Shin Megami Tensei games and their spin offs switch up how you collect demons from game to game. Why can't Poke'mon offer as much variety in the way of playing as SMT and its spin offs?

OK Himu. I probably should have used the Elder Scrolls series then. I HEAR (:teehee) that series is getting dumbed down with each iteration in addition to being the same old stuff. WHERES THE INNOVASHUN

Did you really call out Oscar's son, Andrex?

 :punch

Oscar's son is the kid with six Pikachus and I'm the dude trading with myself. And Himu's the pedo.

huh? Skyrim was hardly dumbed down. Anyone who says it is, is a dumbass. In any case, Elder Scrolls isn't the same thing over and over, they have different stuff. Skyrim has a complete retooling of the skill system. Past Elder Scrolls had point allocation, Skyrim allows you to do whatever x amount of times to level up your skills, so doing blacksmithing a lot will raise your blacksmith skill rather than start a new game and allocate points into blacksmith. This changes the entire game because it makes playstyles more fluid. That's hardly dumbed down, because many rpgs have been doing that since the goddamn 80's.

I think a better example of a game that's the same every iteration would probably be Mario.  :P

Even Dynasty Warriors games are more experimental than Nintendo's franchises. Compare Warriors Orochi 3 to Dynasty Warriors 7 to Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 and you have three completely different yet very similar games. Can the same be said about the bulk of Nintendo's catalogue? That is the base argument.
