All I wanted was a cheap pdf reader so the 8.9" Kindle Fire would have been perfect.

Also this is why I never by technology things.  regret always.

I still have the wifi Kindle Keyboard, but I'm fine with it.

I can't choose between the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD though. And then there's the sexy Surface tablet right around the corner...

i figure we won't know if the OS experience is any better until reviews start coming out

For real real.  As long as the OS is still a slow and buggy piece of shit then I've no need for it.  I hate having to restart my Kindle Fire because after an hour or so the web browser stops working randomly.  Fuck you.  Get a better screen for reading or get a real OS made for the damn thing.

I am kind of feeling like I want one.

I would buy the $119 Wifi Kindle Paperwhite or the Kindle Fire. I like the idea of renting books for free since I already have amazon prime.

I am just worried that I'm overkilling on devices. I already have an iPad 32G Data plan. siiigh

Paperwhite for me RIGHT FUCKING NOW, I think.

Tempted by the 7' Fire ('cause my daughter would love a smaller iPad - she's pretty much taken over my iPad 1) but no need to move on that before I see what Apple has in that range.

Agreed. I WISH IT HAD BUTTONS. :(

Just for pages, mang. Your Paperwhite line is obviously for the hardcore readers, so give 'em what they want! You Fire can be the Magical Touch Free device.

To be honest, I have the kindle touch, and it's fine. You forget the need for buttons within five minutes. The only issue is when you have it in your pocket, accidentally unlock it and pages start turning or starts to zoom in.

Couple the lack of button(s) with the faster CPU and hence faster page turns, and I bet you'll regularly be turning 2-3 pages unintentionally. I do this with comics on the iPad about a million times a day

Discrete page turn on swipe is a poor use of sliding gestures anyway - they only really feel good when there's 1:1 direct manipulation.

Same with comixology etc on iPad but I still end up flipping too many pages all the time. It's by NO MEANS a deal-breaker, to be clear...I've ordered it already. I'd just prefer physical buttons

To me 7" tablets and something like Surface Pro are different ballgames anyway ... the latter is more like a small laptop which can be used like a tablet. I'd like one of both really, but not sure about N7 vs. Kindle Fire vs. rumored iPad mini

8.9" and $299 is a great "sweet spot" size and price for a pure consumption device.  As I said earlier, those $159 Fires are gonna fly off the shelves (even though an extra $40 will get you a much better tablet). That's "I'm not gonna cry/rage if my kid breaks it" toy-territory.

Very interested in the Windows tablet, looks like something I could get some real work done on - the iPad and N7 are great, but I'm a little tired of all the bullshit workaround stuff I have to do just to get some word processing/formatting done . The actual Office suite will be a breath of fresh air there, and I am really intrigued by that cover/keyboard.
