Yaiba Is Now Ninja Gaiden Z

Message from Keiji Inafune

Since my departure from my former company in December of 2010, I have been thinking about how to live up to people’s expectations as an independent game creator. What do people expect of me? What do they want to see me do? A year and a half has passed after becoming independent, and I have been fortunate enough to announce several projects along the way.

I have announced three consumer titles and three social game titles. I have given speeches in various seminars, panels, universities and schools. I have published three books. I am still aggressively challenging myself in various arenas. But I asked myself “Have I covered all everything?” It felt like something is missing; something people expect from me the most. Everywhere I go, people ask:“Are you working on it?” “ When is it coming?”

The expectation seems higher in the west. The expectation is clear. It’s for my next zombie game. There are countless zombie games out there, and yet, people say they want to see a new Inafune zombie game. I am flattered and grateful, for people associating me as a “Zombie Lover”. For that, I must, answer to this expectation. This new concept for my game was born some time after becoming independent. I don’t want to spoil everything just yet, but I hope you will enjoy my new game that is loaded with stuff I love, zombies, ninjas, robots, and action. It’s called “YAIBA”. I hope you are excited. I know I am.

In any case, gaming industry is all about stealing cock pics and ideas. So good for him.

He worked on a game called Dead Rising. It wasn't that popular, so you probably didn't hear about it.

Wow, so it turns out this Yaiba game is actually Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z by Team Ninja and, lol, Spark Unlimited.  Inafking, Team Ninja Dog, and the developers of Legendary... this is like a Voltron of failure.

He is right. What is Inafune even doing on these games? Soul Sacrifice is developed by MarvelousAQL with producer guidance by SCE, MarvelousAQL is also behind that weird 3DS penguin game, and J.J. Rockets. Here you have Team Ninja, and Spark Unlimited. What is the purpose of Comcept? This gen's Mistwalker I guess.

Mistwalker actually did stuff. They were just like Red in that they came up with the idea and had someone else develop it. And for The Last Story, Sakaguchi actually directed the thing.

I don't mean all the way up until release, just that at some point, possibly right after announcement and one or two pictures were shown, it looked fine.

What's up with DmC and this using UE3? Are they unaware that engine is apparently a pain to get to 60fps with?

Hey, the DC vs MK game runs at 60fps!

I'm assuming Tecmo is not paying them too much for this, and they can't make a new engine from scratch, and there's no way Westerners are figuring out the Tecmo engine which is probably insane Japanese spaghetti code, so it only makes sense that this is happening the way it is

I dunno why Japan keeps on doing this. These outsourced spinoffs made by C-tier studios tend to appeal to no one, even if they're pretty okay like Ridge Racer Unbounded. Unbounded is a pretty shitty name though.

But Dead Rising 2 was a few years after this craze began. I understand that Japan was struggling to cope with HD development initially and thus had to outsource some stuff to keep series relevant but come on. Do you guys remember when Namco Bandai started that "Surge" label for western focused titles and they dropped it after Afro Samurai bombed? lol

Isn't the problem that Japan can't do in-house because they're technologically behind and slow as a turtle at PS3/X360 gen tech and so they need to outsource to the US to pick up the pace but unfortunately for them US developers don't work for slave labor, just almost slave labor, so any decent US developer will cost more than having it developed in Japan so they're forced to hire the absolute cheapest and worst US developers because it's the only thing they can afford.

Quote
Various job listings for developer Spark Unlimited indicate the anime-inspired Ninja Gaiden spinoff Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z will be a third-person combat game on next generation consoles.

A senior designer listing details "tuning for a third-person action shooter on next generation consoles" in the job description. Spark is also hiring for a multiplayer engineer and AI engineer to develop network code for "multiplayer/co-op functionality."

An effects artist job and engineer position further corroborate that Yaiba will be a next-generation console title, although neither of these listings indicate it's a shooter. IGN inquired with Tecmo Koei about the information but received no comment.

Job posting in question:

Quote
Spark is looking for an experienced Senior Designer to create first-in-class content for a breakout hit, based on the established console franchise Ninja Gaiden, called Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. This is an opportunity for you to have a hand in creating a bold new take on 3rd person action slasher with horror elements. The Senior Designer will be responsible for collaborating on game design systems, designing/developing levels, and implementing gameplay scenarios including: level construction, basic lighting, event scripting, AI scripting, game balancing, and tuning for a third-person action shooter on next generation consoles.

I saw nothing there that looked next gen to me, unless they mean like Wii U or something, and good luck with the shooter elements.
