Day one

A shame I bought Positive Touch's PSX copy since the 3DS version will probably be out by the time I get around to it.

The 3DS is starting to get a pretty nice library.

What they should do for the Loto trilogy is just translate and port the SNES remakes they did a while back. They were really well done. Put all three on one cartridge and sell it for like $25-30. I can't imagine the first two would ever be candidates for a 3D conversion so might as well make a quick buck with the SNES ones.

If you told me a week ago that DQ1-3 were being remade in 3d for the 3ds, I'd believe you. If you told me DQ7 was being remade in full 3d on the 3ds, I wouldn't have believed you. 1-3 would require less resources than a 7 remake.

I agree with the resources thing, but I guess I was thinking more in context of ROI - the first two games are soooo short that it just seems hard to imagine that the company would believe them worth redoing in 3D. OTOH like you said, their length implies fewer resources to do, so who knows? Someone get Oscar in here. Accurate mofo.

I don't think the first two FFs were redone in 3D, right? Just really shiny sprite remakes. And those are longer than the first two DQs.

Don't know if you got the memo but I never play remakes/ remasters etc. as long as I finished the original game even on NES even 20 years ago.

Replaying the same game = waste of time. You know all the story, you know the ending, you know bosses etc. For me it makes no sense at all. I'd rather play something I never played in that time.

Nice save... lol

Why do you care then? U are showing an awful lot amount of interest.

Looks fantastic, considering the size of the game being remade here.  A DQ freak friend of mine often wondered if they'd be able to justify a remake of DQ7, given just how large it is and the potential audience for any given DQ remake.

I really wonder if they're going to do an English version, though.  It's by leaps and bounds the largest script of the series, and pretty much nothing from the old translation is worth using, if they even have the translation around anymore given how much things changed after its original English release (Heartbeats closing down, Enix America getting dissolved).  Very big job and even Nintendo's got to be shy after how poorly DQ6 and Monsters Joker 2 sold.
DQ7 might luck out due to release timing. After Tomb Raider in March, Square Enix's NA branch has nothing on their release schedule aside from their mobile games and the continuous alpha testing of FFXIV. So some of these japanese titles might luck out and be released as an attempt to fill out their release schedule and keep their localizers busy, at least until the holiday titles like Thief 4.

Looks great but fuck shards. Thankfully this version has a cheat mode in regards to them. I was so pissed when I saw shard pieces I didn't want to buy the game anymore until it showed the part where the bug helps find shard pieces.

Seriously, if this were like DQ7 vanilla, I wouldn't buy it. Because fuck shards, fuck grinding, and fuck 30 hours until you get classes.

I posted some ugly words and thought better of it :'(

Was hoping for beautiful 2D sprites not the 3D nightmare I see, DQ games have never really been lookers (obvious example apart) but yeah wanted the chars to look good at least. Something resembling Phantasy Star Generations (sans ugly art style) for a visual.

Not a fan of Toriyama's gokuh face art either but that is something I am always willing to look past for DQ.

Why even post then?  I mean, I'm honestly interested what you expected a 3DS remake of one of the largest JRPGs of all-time to look like, given outside one region, sales expectations are 50k or less?

It's the second-best looking game in the series.  If you were hoping for better than that, then your hopes were indeed foolish.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I know DQX Wii isn't exactly a looker, but wouldn't its res alone put it over this? Not to mention the HD version... Agree with the general point though.

I'm getting really antsy on both DQ7 3DS and Bravely Default. A few years ago SE were pretty good in terms of localizations but it seems like ever since they bought out Eidos and got a case of westabooism they don't give the US any of the goods from the Japanese side. It's so sad to see how far SE has fallen this gen.

SE wants to make money boo boo.

How are those IOS/GREE announcements working out for you? :teehee

Yeah, because Heroes of Ruin, Sleeping Dogs, Mindjack and Front Mission Evolved were such big hits :P

So you want to beta test those "goods" on 3DS for forty bucks when you should just waif for the discounted definitive mobile versions :teehee

Oh wait I take that back Japan doesn't understand DD so it still will be forty bucks :japancry

I don't think anything without a d-pad could be considered "definitive", touchscreen controls SUCK for games. So I'll be fine with my 3DS games instead of waiting 2 years in hopes of a shitty iphone port which doesn't even control properly and still costs the same as the 3DS version :P
