How do you stop eating during/after a holiday?
« on: November 29, 2012, 02:33:28 AM »
This Thanksgiving break wrecked me, friends.

I've been on a healthy daily routine for a few months now, never felt better in my life. I reached that point where I started enjoying my lifestyle rather than feeling punished or deprived. I thought I was prepared for anything... I was wrong. Dead wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for this.

Let me tell you something, pal: there is nothing deadlier than the combination of a vacation, a holiday that's all about gorging oneself, cold weather, and a concerned parent who thinks you look too thin.

So long story short I succumbed to the pressures, thinking it was only temporary. But I soon realized that *I* was increasingly stuffing *myself*, without any external help, almost involuntarily. It reached a point where hunger wasn't triggering my newly-developed binge eating habit, but the ability to breath; if I can still breath, then there's still room to be filled.

Was I wrong all along about the good feeling from before? Was my subconscious really this starved? I don't know, but what I do know is that it is disgusting and it needs to stop before I consume (LOL) myself.

Now I'm back from the break, and it's the final stretch of semesters... I've been hit with finals, so no time to work out. And I'm currently penniless, so no money to buy healthy food and/or cook for myself. And the habit... it's still kicking. God, why won't it stop?!

Please help.

Please.

Help.

How long do you need to work out, and what other kind of food were you planning on buying other than healthy?

How long do you need to work out, and what other kind of food were you planning on buying other than healthy?

My daily workout was simply comprised of a kickboxing power hour. Since I'm spending most of my time on campus (not to mention a screwed up sleeping pattern) I haven't been able to attend any of the scheduled sessions. As for food, I used to consume lots of proteins and veggies that I cooked myself. But I have less than $25 in my account right now and I'm impatiently waiting for my paycheck lol.

All drama aside, I'll have some time and money next week. My only real concerns are how long will it take me to recover and tame my urges/cravings back to the way it was before, AND how to be better equipped for Christmas break, especially since I'm planning to go home for that month.

Chewing gum does help.  Or become obsessed with oral hygiene.

Just to be clear:
- The OP is a dramatized and exaggerated recount.
- This is a general and open topic about holidays and over-eating. All stories are welcomed.

You should probably ring some bells, and keep some cattle and eat the cattle I guess?
I dunno, Cormac should have the details.

I finally broke my 'no fast food' rule and had taco bell over this past weekend. Even gobbled it down with a mountain dew. Which was the first pop I have had in 5 months.

I did my penance by doing an extra 10 minutes on the elliptical at max resistance.

Ah, the feared elliptical penalty.

It used to be 4 extra sets on the hip abductor machine, but that was too brutal.

I don't. It helps to be bored with food. My fridge has Diet Squirt Beer and Water right now, and there's a few lean cuisines AND DEM BAGEL BITES in the freezer and some dried fruit in the cupboards. When I want to eat its usually at meal time and out at a restaurant with friends.

Oh, green tea is an appetite suppressant, I had been talking elsewhere about how Starbucks cutting their iced green tea with fennel makes it crazy good at keeping you from feeling hungry.

throw away all your shitty food and keep only the stuff thats better for you, and next time you go shopping limit yourself to ONE item of junk food. also if youre ever alone while youre out, say in the bathroom or something, if you have five minutes and dont mind getting a little sweaty then you can do a mini-workout for yourself. keep in mind that i have no idea if thats effective or not, but i do it anyway and tell myself that it makes a difference.

25 bucks feeds me 3000 healthy calories (protein and veggies) everyday for a week by the way.  You're doing something wrong, Shaka!

Anyways, don't be too hard on yourself.  Just get back on.  It happens.  You just need to get back into the swing of your routine

In Oklahoma our beer should be called beer and water.

I believe Diet Squirt has a higher alcohol content.

Shaka (and Pos Touch, if you're not feeling the burn from your 5 min routines) when you get fat cash, you can come with me to Pilates on Wed nights.

I usually leave there and grab a pot roast sandwich from Culvers and a root beer because I feel I've earned it after 60 minutes of mildly tiring exercise.

i guess i have a normal appetite...i get a plate of food and no seconds because I've probably just eaten 1000% of sat. fat + sodium + protein on one plate.  My family over cooks and throws out a stupid amount of food and nobody has ever made an adjustment for that :lol  I usually take home a meal or two worth.

I normally eat pretty light though.  2 eggs + kashi for breakfast, hearty soup + cheese + ham + crackers for lunch, chicken breast with a bunch of sauteed veggies for dinner or rice/beans/veggies.  Lately I've been having chocolate covered potato chips as dessert for lunch and dinner.  And I get a chicago hot dog or korean fried chicken every other week.  Enough veggies, protein, and sugar to get through the day.

I can't understand how people gorge themselves...I know right away when I've had enough to eat to give me energy until the next meal and just stop.

It's hard when you were raised in a family to clean your plate, Don.

yeah, throwing away food feels about as bad as killing your pet to me. i just cant let it go. makes it real hard if i try to plan my meals and then someone pops up and says "hey lets go grab something to eat!" or "hey look what i brought over!"

There's a handful of Culver's but mostly in fatty white people areas - South County, Arnold, Fenton, Eureka.

yeah, i find it shameful too. and I don't like taking the extras cause I have veggies and stuff at home that'll sit around a little longer.

on thanksgiving we went to a restaurant and the thanksgiving entree was obviously like 4 meals worth of food.  So I get a bacon cheeseburger and fries.  The burger is also about 4 meals worth of food.  I ate like half of it (eventually had to take off the bun and nibble away at the patty with knife + fork) and maybe an 1/8th of the fries.  People thought I had lost my appetite, but I was honestly more full than I'd been in a long time...not to mention that shit had like 5000% daily recommended sodium.

point is, america is stupid
