Nearly every school in Detroit has a metal detector and security at the doors. If suburban schools had metal detectors these events would be far more unlikely to happen.

Really? I don't know why this caught my eye, since I think you have legitimate reasoning behind it. But you can say the same for anything, you can literally die at any second, or that is what I think and have somewhat accepted long ago. Doesn't mean I wouldn't try to survive if i was caught in a similar situation.

Except that banning them previously did nothing to the statistics.  I love when the left, who loves to (rightfully) use statistics to back up their arguments clearly ignores statistics on previous attempts of gun control.  And this guy (althoug he comes from a "gun owning family") doesn't seem to know much about guns.  These assault rifles basically are hunting guns.  A Colt LE6920 is a scarier looking version of a Ruger Ranch Rifle.  If this guy wants to legislate what firearms I can and cannot own I'd appreciate it if he did a little bit of research.  That is what bugs gun owners.  How effective can legislation be coming from people who are so unfamiliar with the subject?  Legal gun owners are going to be marginalized and screwed because people want an easy answer and they write shitty and ineffective legislation that does nothing to curb the violence.
