I wouldn't say Jones is a nut, he's right about 70% of the stuff he says, it's just the other 30% where his opinions get a bit "nutty".  some people say he's playing a character but I think he is genuine.

Quote
The teacher in the classroom, along with a campus supervisor, "engaged" the shooter with conversation as students were evacuating, according to Youngbood. At one point the shooter put the shotgun down, and officers were able to take him into custody. The gunman's identity has not been released.

Nah he really believes it.  He's a classic malignant paranoiac:

Quote
It is characterized by at least three of the following:

    excessive sensitivity to setbacks and rebuffs;
    tendency to bear grudges persistently, i.e. refusal to forgive insults and injuries or slights;
    suspiciousness and a pervasive tendency to distort experience by misconstruing the neutral or friendly actions of others as hostile or contemptuous;
    a combative and tenacious sense of personal rights out of keeping with the actual situation;
    recurrent suspicions, without justification, regarding sexual fidelity of spouse or sexual partner;
    tendency to experience excessive self-importance, manifest in a persistent self-referential attitude;
    preoccupation with unsubstantiated "conspiratorial" explanations of events both immediate to the patient and in the world at large.

Honestly I'm more suspicious about Glenn Beck and Limbaugh when it comes to disingenuous performances.

I only lasted 5 minutes (pause). I'll give Piers credit for actually inviting people who disagree with him onto his show, unlike some other media blowhards, but ultimately all he does is make a series of bad arguments while never really discussing constructive things. Sharpio pretty much took Piers to the woodshed because all he can do is dodge, make arguments from authority (who cares what Mark Kelly has to say about guns?), and try to claim the moral high ground.

I would have liked for Piers to jump on Sharpio's comment on the NY firefighter shooting. Sharpio pointed out that was a case of an illegal gun being used to kill someone, and I'd love to get his opinion on whether illegal guns are a problem and how they can be addressed without "violating" the second amendment. Basically, get him to discuss background checks, gun show loop holes, etc; I'll have to watch the rest of the interview to see if he ever asks something like that.

Sharpio also accurately points out that kids are getting killed every day by handguns in Chicago and Detroit yet no one has anything to say. That's something that also goes back to illegal guns, straw purchases, etc which should be the main crux of the argument. I would support an assaults weapon ban, but I don't think that would solve this issue. The Sandy shooter had a couple glocks on him iirc, and could have killed as many kids with them. He just happened to have an AR-15 and thus all the focus is on that gun and high capacity mags.

I've probably asked Drew this before but I forgot his answer: would you support background checks for all people buying guns, and a closing of gun show loopholes so that random people can't buy/sell guns without proper identification and checks?

here we go

Quote
According to the person in the room for Reed’s presentation, Obama’s gun violence prong includes universal background checks for all new gun purchases, which Reed called the most important element of Obama’s entire gun violence proposal. It also calls for banning assault weapons and ammunition magazines with more than 10 rounds and an anti-trafficking law that the White House hopes will break up gun-trafficking rings, Reed told the group.

Reed also said Obama will direct the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health to conduct research into gun violence.

The other elements of Obama’s proposals will focus on education and mental health, Reed said. Obama will seek to build on existing anti-bullying efforts and provide more federal resources for school counselors and school resources officers, Reed told the groups.

Reed told the organizations that the Affordable Care Act – Obamacare – will provide “a massive increase” in the availability of mental health services. Obama will also call for mental health training for school counselors and first responders.

It's like $2.5 million a year and I haven't heard anything about the CDC reports having bias in any news articles today.

If the CDC is proven to have bias, then fix the agency. Don't just diminish their responsibilities. The government definitely should be spending this type of money for research on gun crime when there's over 10,000 gun homicides a year. It reminds me of people who don't trust anything the FDA says about GMO foods because somebody in the FDA used to work at Monsanto.
