I only lasted 5 minutes (pause). I'll give Piers credit for actually inviting people who disagree with him onto his show, unlike some other media blowhards, but ultimately all he does is make a series of bad arguments while never really discussing constructive things. Sharpio pretty much took Piers to the woodshed because all he can do is dodge, make arguments from authority (who cares what Mark Kelly has to say about guns?), and try to claim the moral high ground.
I would have liked for Piers to jump on Sharpio's comment on the NY firefighter shooting. Sharpio pointed out that was a case of an illegal gun being used to kill someone, and I'd love to get his opinion on whether illegal guns are a problem and how they can be addressed without "violating" the second amendment. Basically, get him to discuss background checks, gun show loop holes, etc; I'll have to watch the rest of the interview to see if he ever asks something like that.
Sharpio also accurately points out that kids are getting killed every day by handguns in Chicago and Detroit yet no one has anything to say. That's something that also goes back to illegal guns, straw purchases, etc which should be the main crux of the argument. I would support an assaults weapon ban, but I don't think that would solve this issue. The Sandy shooter had a couple glocks on him iirc, and could have killed as many kids with them. He just happened to have an AR-15 and thus all the focus is on that gun and high capacity mags.
I've probably asked Drew this before but I forgot his answer: would you support background checks for all people buying guns, and a closing of gun show loopholes so that random people can't buy/sell guns without proper identification and checks?
