I've been on Spike's side multiple times over the years, mainly in relation to him shitting on Tyler Perry. But I can't defend him here, this is ridiculous. Django is a fucking blaxpoitation film about slavery, of course it's over the top. It's about a slave killing white people...and it's going to make a butt load of money. How is that a bad thing?

He needs to see it before popping off. Also, QT is well respected by most black people in Hollywood. The only person I know doesn't like him is Denzel

Makes no sense. Lee is a smart guy and should admit black people say the n-word just as much if not more than what is displayed in QT films. And I'd imagine many white people use the word too, ironically or racially around other whites.

On Chappelle Show? Well, still, that quote is straight out of Quentin's character in PF. Spike doesn't like films where white people have free reign to use the word and Quentin makes film that reflect culture in a way, so he doesn't give a fuck about the use of the word. To Spike, it's racist to hear a white person use the word. To anyone with a functioning brain watching, it's Quentin's portrayal of people as well as the times because the man clearly isn't racist. But Spike considers any use of the word by white folks to be racist. That's how up his butt he is.

QT bills himself as writing dialogue based on how people actually talk. It doesn't work all the time (Death Note) but when it works, it's perfect. Given Lee's views on white structural racism, you'd think he'd agree with QT's use of the word and argue it was realistic.

I was reading some OhNoTheyDidnt news post on this move and more than a few of the black people there are wary of this movie. Now this is ONTD so remember the normal poster there would put even the worst of GAF's PC brigade to shame, but the main reasons were:

1. QT past use of the nword (for a lot of people there, white people should not use the word at all, no context is excusable) and the buzz regarding how many times its used in this movie.

2. paraphrasing "yet another movie about slaver/black empowerment made by a white person" and similar kinds of statements

Personally, I'll wait to see the movie before having any opinions either way. I usually like QT movies and I haven't heard anything so far that would lead me to believe that this is a racist movie (or even.....problematic).

No I was saying Death Note's dialogue, while interesting, was a bit "much" imo. Almost Sorkin levels of unrealistic flourishes. Whereas I've heard people talk like other QT films all my life.

The second half has Rosario Dawson, Zoe Bell's amazing stuntwork, one of the best car chase sequences in the last decade, an amazing follow through on the setup of Stuntman Mike's character from the first act, and DAT CURB STOMP.

I love both halves of Death Proof. Damn now I want to watch it. Amazing movie.

I'm pretty much in the Inglorious Basterds>Pulp Fiction camp but as with Jackie Brown, I haven't seen Pulp Fiction in ages. IB feels like it's broken down into 4-5 big acts, and most of them are stunning. Especially the first scene, and the bar scene.
