The Boy
This touching fair and balanced historical film depicts the life of Samuel Tuckett, a homeless African-American youngster from a single parent home, taken in by Jennie Beauregard, a well-to-do slave owner who helps him fulfill his potential. At the same time, Tuckett's presence in Beauregard's life leads her to some insightful self-discoveries of her own. Living in his new environment, the boy faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome. As a mandingo fighter and farm hand, Tuckett works hard and, with the help of his overseers and adopted family, becomes an independent slave owner himself.
