So anti-gay "religious freedom" bills are A-OK because your coworker is an asshole. Sounds good bro.

No not at all. Sorry if you thought I was comparing the two. I'm not much of a Church State guy. Actually I'm not much for the cult of Churches at all.

OK good. I was confused since this is what you said:

North Carolina's state legislature is apparently passing an anti-anti-discrimination bill targeted at LGBT folks.

I mean at some point somebody has to put a stop to this shit.

No I meant the North Carolina fuckery. My side caveat was more personal dealings, I can see why it would seem I was backing it in context. My bad.

To clarify

In life: Do what you want, you have as much right to life as anyone else on this planet.

In business: Toe the company line as long as that line isn't aimed at your head.

Make sense?

That's not a terrible statement on the surface but I don't agree workers should be subservient to corporate whims. For sure, nobody should be going out of their way to advertise their sexuality, but trying to dissuade that always hurts those who are normal about it. Replying to "what are you doing this weekend?" with "I'm going out with my boyfriend" isn't "shoving it down" anyone's throat, but in a "work is only for work" context it could be seen as such.

Codifying rules against the bad apples disproportionately hurts normal LGBT folk who simply don't think it's a big deal.

Let me preemptively say the argument "just get another job if you don't like it" is easier said than done for a lot of folks in many industries, and will only get that much harder if "religious freedom" bills like the ones in North Carolina and Georgia are signed into law. It's unacceptable on every level.

I'm going out with my boyfriend is not offensive.

Im going out with my girlfriend is not offensive.

I'm trying to get some dick is offensive

I'm trying to get this girls ass is offensive.

Example: One of our field foreman thought it was smart to send naked pics of one of our admins out that he found on a website (she does that not quite all the way dancing, starts with a B, it's escaping me)....I fired his ass. Can't have it either way.

Sorry about jumping straight to snark. My jimmies got rustled when you tied the North Carolina thing to your coworker and implied it was a good thing.

For just how much of a shitshow the NC law is, this is a good article.

Quote
And on Wednesday, the North Carolina legislature held a special, $42,000-a-day session to pass a sweeping anti-LGBTQ bill that not only repeals Charlotte's ordinance, but bans future local laws that protect LGBTQ people. And on the exact same day, the governor signed the bill into law.

It's a startling piece of legislation — one that Sarah McBride of the Center for American Process called "one of the most extreme, anti-LGBT bills we've seen yet." And North Carolina legislators used a dangerous myth to move forward with the law, regardless of the risks.

Here's what the law does:

The statute overturns and bans local laws that don't conform to the state's nondiscrimination laws for the workplace and public accommodations (hotels, restaurants, and other places that serve the public). Since the state doesn't ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity in the workplace or public accommodations, this effectively forces all cities and counties to keep it legal to discriminate against LGBTQ people in these settings.

It prohibits transgender people from using bathrooms or locker rooms in schools and government agencies based solely on their gender identity. Instead, they're forced to use bathrooms and locker rooms based on the gender noted on their birth certificate, which can be changed through an arduous process after gender-affirming surgery but not before then. Public facilities can still build unisex single-person bathrooms to accommodate trans people, but it's not required.

In other words, the law is a mix of two types of anti-LGBTQ measures: laws that ban local nondiscrimination measures for LGBTQ people and an anti-transgender bathroom bill.

Not OK.

Apparently, NC Dems had to request a bathroom break just to get a few minutes to read the bill. Then the Dems in the Senate all walked out anyway, because it was clear that the Republicans were pushing it through as fast as possible and had no interest in pursuing any debate.

real talk what is up with people idolizing Hillary Clinton. She's not particularly charismatic. So why? Just why? Seeing some gaffers fawn over her and refer to her as 'queen' is fucking weird.

Honestly I think she'll be a great president. She's not the best campaigner though, particularly coming off of Obama.

She'll be about as effective as bringing a meat tray to a vegan bar.

I don't understand the complaint that she's not charismatic. I've seen her talk and interact with people, she seems fine to me. She's not "fun Aunt Hillary" but 50% of complaints about her are either her demeanor, looks, or voice and it seems pretty sexist to me. I'm not saying you're sexist if you don't like Hillary, but if you're saying she has "no charisma" it might be worth examining why.

She seems natural enough here when responding to this kid's question. Sure, she's a politician and what she says has to be taken with a grain of salt, but she's not all "BEEP BOOP VERY GOOD QUESTION HOO-MAN" which is what I would expect from what her detractor's say.

But hey, maybe she just needs to smile more?

A male politician has to look and act like Dick Cheney before getting called out on it, but for Hillary all it takes is not smiling enough. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As expected, the goal posts have been moved from "OBAMACARE'S KILLING SMALL BUSINESSES!" to "WELL OKAY  SMALL BUSINESSES MIGHT IN FACT ACTUALLY BE GROWING BUT THEY'RE NOT OFFERING HIGH PAYING JOBS!"

And I'm pretty sure that's not true either.

I don't get the whole "Saying Hillary looks grumpy is sexist!" bit.
I mean Bernie has been lampooned everywhere for looking like an unstable mental patient and we just sorta laugh it off (we make fun of how Ben Carson looks sleepy, Rubio looks thirsty, Jeb looks like a loser,  and don't mention Trump's "hair").
But then I guess I might not get it because I'm on of those "Bernie bros" or whatever.

Though honestly, I think his tax plan is a train wreck. But at the same time I cant have a candidate that's in essence saying everything I've pushed for in ages and then say "Yeah, the execution will never work, so I wont vote for him."

But then, I'm in California. We're so late in the primary process it doesn't matter who we vote for by the time it gets to us.

This forum is incredibly different compared to other places and vice versa. Some people want to fuck or cuddle with Hilary on some parts of the internet, while Bernie Sanders gets called an old ass constantly in some places(even though the age difference between him and Hilary is 6 or 7 years).

Politicians get made fun of all the time. George W Bush was a living meme for 8 years. The words that come out of Hillary's mouth are way worse than her appearance or vagina, personally. You also quoted the same person twice, Dufus didn't say anything about looks or gender, and Puppy said Hilary looks grumpy.

Like, women can be grumpy. Calling Hilary a dyke grandma that should go back home to groom her rug and she should bring all the women at the whitehouse with her would be sexist.

It's really not a huge concession to admit that people say more shit about Hillary's clothing, looks, etc than her male counterparts. Women have constantly been subject to this kind of thing. I recall the majority of the mockery of Bush surrounded his borderline illiteracy/awful policies, not his mode of dress and lack of smiles.

Tasty, Trump is a walking buffoon who everybody already picks on and Bernie is nearly dead . Let's face it we don't exactly have JFK running for the White House this year. Just because we joked about Hillary last page doesn't mean anything other that's it's a coincidence.

Also this is a political thread, shit is going to be throw around....it's how it is. If you can't handle it without getting upset maybe it's best you stay above the fray buddy, you know?

All of those things are true, though! He also bankrupted the nation with two shitty wars, let an American city drown because he'd appointed a horse judge to be head of FEMA- since who cares if the government is able to respond to emergencies when you don't view the government as a necessary thing- and had the misfortune to be holding the grenade when it went kablooey all over the financial system, which was a result of prior legislation and deregulation, sure, but not stuff he would have opposed.

You tryin to say he's not a shit tier President that didn't EARN all of that derision, dude? Cause c'moooooooon. Trump ain't right about much, but he's right about W being a fucking dumpster fire.

Politics is a breeding ground of polarization.

people idolize hillary because she is a woman
stop lying to yourself

she's a shitty person, as is trump
i ideologically disagree with bernie the most out of any candidate besides maybe cruz but i can appreciate how genuine he is

if hillary were up against a real republican, or if bernie somehow had the machine that she has (aka my point is more fair race) then she would get destroyed...in theory
but i think really she'd win because she's a woman
i guess what i'm trying to say is don't vote for a woman because they're a woman...whenever i talk to female hillary supporters it always becomes about sex
they just really want a female president
ok, i get it
but wouldn't real courage be being able to stick to your principles and wait for a better female candidate to come along, not someone so transparently fake and malleable?

i don't know what the fuck im saying at this point lol i just really take issue with blind obedience to any candidate, regardless or any parameters

ps. this was not a commentary about the discussion on this page

I'm not voting for Hillary because she's a woman, I'm voting for her because I think she's the best candidate with the sanest policies and the most experience. I'm sure I'm not alone. All of this kind of talk is drenched in confirmation bias though.

If something you like (doesn't matter if it's a movie, a game, a person, a place, etc) receives any criticism it can feel unfair or unbalanced. Conversely, if you DISLIKE something all criticism seems just and coming from a logical place.

It can be both though. Some of the criticism of Hillary can come from that sexist instinct in a lot o men and some can come from 20+ years of being a public figure in politics. She's not some neophyte that has stayed out of the headlines and divisive topics.

In the end, that's what a President actually is. Just a totem for us to throw hope at or fling feces at. Something tangible for us to get inspired by or vent at so we don't pick up guns and start shooting those that disagree with us.
