True although Cheney and Biden had influence increased the VP role over some past cases like Gore or whatshisface (HW Bush's vp). Like I said I'd rather have Warren becoming more and more important in the senate though. The WH doesn't write legislation.

Well yeah, the problem with choosing Warren is that she'll outshine Hilary. If Warren does get the Veep slot, I would be hoping on some level that she would be acting like an altruistic Frank Underwood and usurp her boss however possible. And I like Hilary.

But yeah, the basic point is, don't pick somebody who people like much better then you to be your understudy, it'll just make you look worse over the long and short run.

What? No. Barely any of the rules and the regulations of the UN actually apply to the US due to the position we were in when the UN was founded. They couldn't not have us be a part of it so we have some rather special privileges. Not all Christians believe in a pre-Tribulation rapture. Some believe Christians will live through part of the Tribulation.

Truthfully I find it optimistic that one would even be appointed after January 2017. The electorate has yet to definitively punish Republican legislators for their behavior during the last 8 years and why would they give away SCOTUS for possibly quite awhile when 4-4 "decisions" will simply allow their strategy of death by a thousand cuts to continue at the state level?

Would not be surprised at all if the GOP finds some public reason to indefinitely avoid a vote on Clinton's pick.  "After an election where she failed to win half the popular vote or get a mandate, the President chose not to reach across the aisle and nominate a qualified judge with bipartisan support (ie a Federalist Society member), but rather chose an unqualified radical (nonwhite person) after seeking no Republican input, in a clear effort to further politicize the court."

Meanwhile, maybe Democrats could stop getting their asses handed to them at the state level?  Dunno, maybe it would help.

I agree, I wouldn't be stunned if her nominee is filibustered the shit. Seems like democrats will likely take the senate, and assuming republicans obstruct we could see the filibuster killed for Supreme Court nominees. Hopefully John McCain loses his seat in November too btw; last thing I'd want is some type of half assed "Gang of X" deal in which republicans get a compromise pick.

The 9th Circuit Court recently ruled there is no constitutional right to have concealed gun. Hillary is going all-in for an assault weapons ban. I just can't imagine republicans casually letting her tilt the court left on guns given where the wind is heading.

Based on her not being a tall, black guy and that she will have had to campaign against Trump for the better part of a year, she's probably going to use the macho-aggressive card that she's been dealt with when talking about these issues. I don't know if it'll help but it's a different approach that maybe would have helped Obama push forward more.

If there's one thing you can credit the Republican Party in its current incarnation with it's playing the normative game. I would draw a line from their previous strategy of undermining the administration / the executive branch by refusing to confirm appointments (the ATF director saga being the obvious example) to their present behavior of claiming the presidency loses its powers of office for around 25% of its elected term because they say so. The beauty of making things normative is people accept them as normal without regard for evidence.
