Went back to an old save file today before I screwed up that one quest and got the card I needed, then proceeded to run around and grind gwent games out of merchants and innkeepers all day. Finished the Velen and Big City Gwent quests; my Northern Realms deck is pretty damn awesome, and my Nilfgaard deck is getting there.

It helps that the enemy AI is really, really dumb in most cases so matches aren't hard to win. Fun little game, though.

Yeah, it's easy to exhaust their hand in the first round, Monsters especially. A single frost card, whatever it's called, breaks their back completely because they're so heavily melee based.
Nilfgaard is really fun to play as and play against. Turning a draw into a win would be so much fun against human players.

I still need to play Gwent. Getting tired of seeing those contracts on my secondary board >:(

Never played it either, don't really want to. What's this about contracts being tied to Gwent? Does it actually unlock stuff?

If you already did the Bloody Baron stuff you might of  missed out since hes apparently fucking good at it.

Fast attack and either Quen (shield) or Igni (fire blast) to start is my suggestion. I also put a point in Sun and Stars for health regen during the day so I wouldn't have to scrounge for chicken sandwiches and shit all the time during the first few levels (you don't really need it later on). Also pick up any Alcohest you see, it auto-refills all potions as long as you have some in your inventory (meditate to refill health and potions). Dodge and roll like a motherfucker, especially if you see yourself getting boxed in.

yeah do it before the fight if you can, just check your bar and when it flashes full do it again

Beat on someone or some thing until your quen shield breaks, roll or dodge, charge again, repeat

Yrden(?) is really useful too. I love slowing enemies down and being able to mash fast attack even more. I generally throw my shield on, throw down two traps, and then lure monsters/enemies into the trap and repeat until the fight is over. The combat could use a ton of work, but once you find a style that works for you, it's almost enjoyable.

Steamrolled Jenny iirc.
I had some trouble with Merry Widow I think. I didn't die, but facing an enemy that is above you in level is pretty tough.
I find it exciting as all hell though.

Also I'm level 11 now and haven't even done bloody baron. fug
Gotta go back and do low level stuff, starting to outpace everything hard.

Did that last night. She beat me twice. All I used was magic traps and wraith oil. I'm not even sure it's a wraith though. These kind of fights I save right before I start the event. Scary looking thing though.

Moon Dust is great btw. Like I know it can be a pain but as soon as you get a bestiary entry and you know what type the boss is gonna be (spectre etc) try to get any of the shit it recommends to make the fight easier. A lot of the trickier enemy types/bosses you can effectively shut down with the right tools so you only have to worry about dodging/counter attacking.

This fucking game brehs. Novigrad is the most impressive fantasy set city I've ever seen in a video game. The score too, feel like we don't talk about that enough either.

I figured Jenny O' the Woods out on the third try. I didn't have any wraith oil and had no points in yrden so it was still pretty tough, I think I had less than 10% health left. Asshole bandits across the path were shooting at me, too , so I made sure to hucklebuck their shit after I meditated  :maf

One of the quests in Novigrad reminded me about how the original stories ended. Made the next couple hours quite melancholic. The way they extended it and then more or less repeated a lot of the story beats in the games is weird. I dunno, knowing that stuff makes it kinda weird. A re-write would have been easier to swallow for all sorts of reasons.

There's this quest with having to clear out a manor at some point.
Came across this giant wood monster with horns that somehow wandered into the area. Was like fuck it, he's almost 10 levels above me but slow enough for me to take down.

Beat him down to 50% health then he summoned wolves. Motherfucking level 22 wolves at my 10.
Couldn't do it.
I did the exact same thing. Figured I could just repair my sword halfway through and keep going. High level wildlife is no joke.
There was a similar instance with two Wyvern nests. I was strong enough to beat the two, but then a Royal Wyvern showed up which is part of a contract and promptly ripped me to shreds. The area was part of a contract I already knew about but put aside because it was too high level. Woops.

---

I wish you could just craft the improved versions of armours instead of having to (re-)make all preceding versions first. Their level restrictions make it seem like you're supposed to switch through the different school's equipment, but then you'd have to lug around several sets just to conveniently upgrade to the next tier. It's really annoying the way they leap frog.

Also I have these superior crossbow bolts that I can neither use nor sell to anybody I've met so far. They're surprisingly heavy (12 something for 80 of them), so I wanna get rid of them but I don't want to just throw them away. :goty2
