So, the take away from this is "Hope you like Western games, cause Japan is still working on the PS3!"

Makes sense, they were behind a console generation already so why not be behind on the "HDHD" generation and be on "HD" (read: sub-720p) like westerners were.

In any case, Sony get me to buy their console when it hits $250 or less just for Uncharted 4 and FFvs13/15. Those two are the only "console exclusives" they have that I can't get on PS3 or PC right now. So...

Well, since PSN is getting hammered and I can't actually DO anything with the system, might as well upload some pics. 

This was paused on the TV when I got home.   


Everything I got for launch.


The PS4 itself is smaller than I expected it to be and is surprisingly very light. 


As for the Gamestop launch, it was pretty uneventful.  There were two weird European dudes laughing at something and trying to take pictures of everyone, but besides them there was only one crazy fanboy type raving about how amazing this was going to be and how remote play was going to be "amazing, son, amazing- imma play my PS4 all over town!  They got that VITA TV in Japan man it must cost like crazy money but yo imma cop it!"  Everyone else was pretty quiet.  One of the clerks was pretty enthusiastic about everything and was asking people what games they got and what they were going to do.  I think I made him feel bad when I responded with "go home, update the system, and go to sleep."

Messing with remote play right now.  Tried Injustice and I'm pretty impressed- it appears as if frames are being skipped (or if a lower framerate is being outputted), but the game is extremely responsive.  The remote play screen quality is not as sharp as say, native res, but it looks good overall.  I'm more interested in seeing what this is like when playing games online, but that is gonna have to wait until tomorrow, it seems.

Yup.  See as I figured next-gen would be weak for the opening months I saved up hot PS3 games to wait to play until PS4 came out.

Gonna play PS4 + GTAV + Beyond + Puppeteer this weekend.  And before everyone says Beyond sux, I played a couple of chapters and I like it; good white man's visual novel.

Real Talk, going to be 2-3 year transition period like there was for the PS3.  I expect Japanese PS3 games through 2015, but by about 2016 all console 3rd party games should be PS4 in Japan (and look like PS3 games).


Maybe we'll get lucky and get a Way of the Samurai 5 or something in 2014.

Anyone with a taste for Japanese games is pretty much fucked on the consoles. Fortunately my tastes have adapted because it is a virtual requirement in order to enjoy console gaming now, short of going dd only. But I expect most of the jp stuff on ps4 to mostly be ports from ps3 for a while.
