So you won't buy a domestic but you will buy one of the lowest quality, most expensive, highest repair cost vehicles in the compact segment?
The Cruze/Focus/Elantra stomp that in every way that will matter to you. I'm sure the Dart does too but it hasn't been out long enough to say quality for sure.
Being a frequent renter of vehicles (for work) I can vouch for the Elantra and Cruze - good features, easy to drive, good power and well-tuned. The 2013 Focuses (Foci?) never impressed me much. And, an earlier edition of the Focus did not do so splendidly in Manitoba in January (where I was at the time).
I've also driven the Jetta, which is OK in the snow.
I'm no aficionado, but my impression was that the heavier my car was, the easier it handled the snow, all other things being equal.
