Maybe what you're experiencing is that everyone and their barista use arabica beans

Team tea!

Coffee is for the orphans who work in my monocle factory.
Also, closers only.

Maybe I'll drink coffee when I grow up. But for now that shit is meh. Stains your teeth, makes your breath smell stale..and worst of all I hate people who leave cups of coffee everywhere and then are all like "hold on don't throw it away, I was going to drink that." You pour that cup 6 hours ago, took a sip, and randomly set it on a table. Fuck you.

Some of my favorite ice creams are basically different kinds of java chip/mocha varieties.

Best of tea >>> Best of coffee

The whole coffee thread at GAF reminded me of this article from the Seattle Times which was then dissected at the Stranger:

http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2014/02/17/rich-people-willing-to-pay-60-for-a-pound-of-coffee-just-to-remind-themselves-how-rich-they-are

Quote
“The convenience is amazing,” said John Berger, a 77-year-old Bellevue resident who was recently buying two boxes of Tully’s decaf K-cups at his local Fred Meyer. “You can get a fresh cup each time,” he said, adding that he owns two Keurig machines — one at home, and one at his vacation place in Montana.
...
The convenience does come at a price. At about 65 cents per cup, that Nespresso coffee costs about $59 per pound.

I know you can get the reusable K-cups and use your own, but the article isn't talking about that.

And people balk at me dropping $13-$15 a pound on locally roasted beans? Ha!

Maybe I'm just mad because coffee gives me a grumbly stomach. :shaq2

Better quality coffee is less acidic.

So you never had a nerd moment in your life where someone said something factually incorrect and you almost pushed up your (perhaps nonexistent) glasses in derision

:hitler

The part about showing off/impressing someone is what killed me not the first post.

I'm guessing there's probably more to the story than we know, but it's still absolutely horrible. I hope he's ok.

I grew up down the hill from Federal Way and spent a lot of time in the park where he was headed. It's pretty sizable.

He didn't show up for work this morning, and his car and phone are missing as well.

Don't want to be a downer in that thread and maybe TOO SOON but doesn't sound good.  There's no identification for the e-mail or the person that has been harassing him? Sounds like a bad ending to me because of that. Major shame if I turn out right, dude doesn't deserve a crazy death. :(

Utility companies would just spring up out of the woodwork to take on giant monopolies if we let the free market handle it.

I'm gonna start my own company building roads since the ones we've got now aren't that great. BRB, getting a loan from the bank. Oh wait, sorry, the bank is actually owned by the same company that builds the roads now and they won't float me a loan to start up a direct competitor to their business.

Hmm, sounds familiar. Slate? Bate? Grate? Something like that.

De-monopolizing utility companies is a bad thing because the current monopolies might win? ??? ??? ???

If it wasn't heavily government regulated? Yeah, definitely.

Utilities are currently heavily regulated (if competition isn't outright banned) the result of which is why you have monopolies and cartels managing them.

The libertarian position is merely that removing the state protection of utility monopolies shouldn't result in a worse situation because worse case you have the same existing monopolies in place so all you've lost is one avenue of collusion and graft.

Partial airline deregulation under the Carter Administration (with Ted Kennedy's help) being the most famous example of a flood of new competition entering an once cartel dominated industry. I know lots of elites lament it because it democratized access to air travel but I don't find that a particularly compelling case for monopolization.

California probably should have tried deregulation instead of shifting regulations around in a way that they were told beforehand was going to create shortages. Especially the part that required purchases from a centralized exchange.

No point really, I/others will just point out failures in deregulation or privatisation experiments and benji will say that there wasn't enough of it
I wish I had others to point out the endless failures in central planning and monopolization experiments so you guys can just say there wasn't enough violence used.  :fbm
