Oh, I completely agree with that. It IS absolutely revolting, and such a reaction is absolutely warranted.

But that's part of what makes it beautiful! The human condition is sometimes so awful that it haunts our deepest, darkest nightmares... and if something is so terrible as to make you lose sleep, lose faith in humanity or even just want to vomit, that's kind of beautiful in its own way.

If something affects us on a deep, emotional level -- be it positive or negative, delightful or uncomfortable -- is that not an indication of its power as a work of art? And isn't that ability for a mere CONCEPT to make us sad, or mad, or miserable kind of amazing, when you think about it?

That's what I love about art.

Okay.

They know they're pedophiles and they've accepted it, or they know and they haven't accepted it, or they don't realize it and feed their attraction through loli games. However, not a single one of them is going to come out and say,"I'm attracted to children" like it's coming out as being gay or bi or pansexual. They know full well the ramifications of "coming out" and know that there are real consequences for doing that. So they hide behind white lies and delusions about the artistic merit or the fact that, no, just because I have an avatar of a 12 year old sexualized anime girl doesn't mean I'm a pedophile. Not a single person is going to admit why they actually want the game, and for good reason. In the grand scheme of things, I'd rather they have the game in the end. Much better for them to have an outlet and a way to feed their sexual energy without acting on it. At least in theory.

they are harmless only in as far as they are constantly reminded that acting on their feelings is unacceptable behaviour, which is exactly why we need to step in and get in their faces about it at every opportunity. 

I just argued that we do need to get in their faces and try and pull them along (I just dont want to be the one to do it). for those who care though I think dialogue helps instead of ostracizing them, most of what I find to be a problem is the way we approach these people, as if they are criminals already

no, you argued that we need to try to talk them through it.  that's impossible.  we shouldn't treat them as criminals, of course, but we also can't treat them like they're normal.  they're mentally ill, and chronically so, with no functional cure.  there are probably better options (societally speaking) than just shutting down all discussion, but a firm swat on the nose and telling them not to talk about it is far better than enabling it and hugboxing their deviant attitudes.  the best choice would be to sit beside them constantly and smack them in back of the head when they misbehave, but i feel that's well beyond the scope of a message board moderator.  they should get professional help.  they won't, though, because as you can see from that thread, they don't even think they're sick.

My favourite post by Tom from XSEED is one of his Senran Kagura defense responses. The series sells itself on high school girls with big boobs. He went to point out that the games have a deep gameplay system with a storyline far more captivating than one would expect.
