I've used vanilla, phpbb, drupal, ipb, smf, fuck knows what else. The only reason I'm not on vb at the moment is I don't need to manage a lot of plugins and users. Vb is absolutely fuck awesome.

I started theming on vB, and yes it's an absolutely horseshit process, but the results always look sogood.gif. At least you arent a deranged animal and we can agree phpbb is pure 100% filth garbage.

Well it's not about the theme, it's about the functions and the relations of objects within phpbb. It's like someone vomited abstract relations all over their code. It's a fucking mess.

It makes no sense, you update attributes of seemingly unrelated things like rank to get the desired effect of a group update etc. The objects do not relate to a larger schema, it's a mess. (p.s. i pulled that example out of my ass, but it's representative)

The problems I had was that it was super complicated for a group to have a certain set of permissions for a forum, like the forum has its default permissions and the user group has default permissions and then the user themselves have default permissions. Just nasty to try and replicate say, GAF's junior posting group (can't make threads, etc.)
