I think definition differ in terms of how attainable said reward is, with "white knighting" being the act of being nice with the hopes of an intangible sexual reward (such as when you white knight a celebrity) compared to the "simping"-act of being nice with the hopes of a tangible sexual reward (Mutes whiteknighting trab, hoping that they'll become close enough friends for him to be able to fly over to germany and then confess his feelings for her - so that she'll suck him).
