I'm not really an expert on the situation, but it's my understanding that it was pretty much just offloaded to him. Back in the post-dot-com bubble bursting and before Google Ads came along to provide a reliable stream of revenue based on traffic, I'm pretty sure GAF was just a money sink for Gaming-Age. As such, it seems that it was more of a situation of Jim wanting rid of that particular albatross, as the costs of hosting it were far outweighed by any ad revenues or Gaming-Age proper readership.

Obviously, things are different now. But the forum was barely alive for some time there. I get some of my history mixed up. I know they were on shaky ground there on EzBoards for a while before migrating over to the current setup in Aught Four. And I know before EzBoard they were hosted by IGN for a while. I can't remember if there was a UBB forum between IGN and EzBoards, or if being dropped by IGN was the cause of that transitional period.
