Gaf must be utterly loathed in the actual gaming dev community. I remember when it was
the place to interact with devs. Now we get 1-2 who show their faces once in a blue moon. Many who'll never ever say who they are or where they actually work and most who wisely give the place a wide berth.
That whole interview with EL is hilarious.
NeoGAF is free to use and fully browsable even if you’re not a member of its community, but registering as a user is subject to the site’s approval. Get yourself banned, and it’s unlikely you’ll be allowed another account – there must be “real consequence for breaking the rules,” says Malka. “Arguments can become incredibly heated on NeoGAF, but the emphasis is always on evidence-based discourse,” he tells us. “Claim something? Back it up. If you do, even if it’s inflammatory there likely won’t be any consequences, but drive-by trolling isn’t tolerated.”
Bullshit. If the mods share the same line of thinking they won't care to get people to back up their 'facts'
Where once it sat outside looking in, it is becoming part of the games media it derides so heavily. So why do NeoGAF’s discussions so often revolve around the games media’s presumed corruption, or incompetence?
I love the moaning about journos and reviews scores and yet all that most of gaming side Gaf cares about is the score the game they've spent months shilling for is getting. 8 or under and watch out mr reviewer, the 'detectives' are coming to comb your history to look for 'bias'. Then piss and moan about metacritic having so much pull with companies and the games they make.
He couldn't resist dropping this in could he?
“When I travelled to Europe last year for four months, I met up with dozens of NeoGAF members, and stayed at the home of two NeoGAF members in Switzerland,” says Malka. “They met each other thanks to the site a few years prior, and she moved from the United States over there and got married. We’ve had several other marriages under similar circumstances.”
