Is having a telephone necessary? Or a cell phone? I can go either way with this one. I know growing up many times we had our telephone cut off because we couldn't pay the bill. I remember my mom telling me many times she was going next door to the neighbor's house to make a phone call. With so many people having cell phones these days, lets say you don't have one and there is an emergency - kid gets hurt, bad accident, you can always make the call on someone else's phone or ask them to make it for you. Its inconvenient to do this, but part of being poor is that you are greatly inconvenienced by a lot of things and have to figure out how to get by with little.
