There were fanboys. There were Xbox fanboys before the console launched. EGM was suckling Sony's dick before the PSX hit. It is the nature of the sort of people that make up the gaming press. These are not critically thinking, pride-in-their-work folks. They are happy to be getting paid for talking about their hobby obsession. Any company that tickles their dumplings gets love.

I came up with the idea that Sony fans overrate games because they DO IT WITH EVERY SERIES SONY TROTS OUT. Jebus. They still do it today. Also, the PSX time was during economic growth and many Playstation games were around $30, cheaper than anything retail-wise today. There was a similar (but not as extreme) mass consumption of partially played titles on the PSX/PSOne as there is now on Steam. It was a new game every week for many people with regular jobs, and many of the games really only had about a weeks worth of interest to them.

I'm not averse to the PSP. It's just irrelevant. I couldn't name you one PSP title I ever felt myself wanting.

No, the majority of people who know their shit focus on teaching the proper mental mindset you need in order to be successful in this way, along with other practical self-improvement tips (Work out! This is tough because the counterfactual doesn't exist, so we can only really do this as a mental exercise. But if you took the exact same person, and in one scenario he kept looking at the floor, mumbled and slurred his words, was dressed like shit, only talked about boring subjects, etc, and in the other scenario, he made eye contact, spoke clearly and confidently, wore an outfit that fit him and went together well, and had interesting and entertaining things to say, it's very likely that the exact same woman would be much more interested in talking to the guy in the second scenario.

I mean, you aren't owed a job by any single employer, but you can still get a better suit, improve the wording of your resume, and read books on how to interview better, right?

But that's not all PUA is and if it was it'd be harder to sell it. It's also about being guy number 2 and trying some jedi mind tricks instead of just being a decent fucking person.
