Yeah, he isn't broke but he's not rolling in cash. He would be if he actually paid the talent that were at his disposal with money instead of SA merchandise. SA used to have really talented artists, photshoppers, programmers etc. They abandonded the site and went where the money was because Lowtax was cheap. The servers rarely crash though, so he's definitely on the ball there. Keeping SA up isn't cheap either. Lowtax relies on memberships for cash, not ads, which means the site needs to be up for people to register or buy dumb avatars. Not only is SA not reliant on ads but an ad firm owes Lowtax 50 grand in unpaid ad money. There was a big stink about it back in the day and I am not sure if they ever paid up.

It isn't that Lore makes a lot of money, it's that he spends so little. At this point in Neogaf's life the servers should not being going down due to traffic. If he spends money on getting better servers though that is less sheckles for his dumb ass every month. I'm pretty sure that if Lowtax did what Lore does he wouldn't have had to sell his McMansion during the housing crash. I talk a lot of shit about SA but I really feel terrible for Lowtax. He has to deal with a lot of issues due to his clinical depression. He's also been very hands off since 2007, when SASS basically ran him off the forums due to a "hacking" scandal.

Oscar what youre saying applies to people out of college in general, when they get their first office jobs they are so green they will maybe come to hate the company. Then later on they will realize that this is how companies work and the next place will already seem better.

Sure.  Most people who come to Japan from Western countries come here right out of University.  They're freshly educated, ego pumped, idealistic as fuck, and bless their hearts, they're morons.  Everyone is at that age.  Anyway, they've likely not had any real adult experience working in an office or proper company at that point.  They come here, they get office/proper company jobs, and when they experience all the crap that comes with that type of job, they tend to chalk it up as cultural instead of realizing you run into this shit everywhere.  This is one part of what creates a very unhappy type of foreigner you meet all the time in Japan.

I would say these are the ingredients for a miserable life in Japan:

- come here young and idealistic
- come here with some distinguished mentally-challenged fake image of Japan that you conjured from your miggity-manga or animu
- arrive functionally illiterate and unable to communicate
- do nothing to change that
- be socially awkward in your home country, come here thinking things will be different
- do nothing to change *that*
- exclusively hang out with other foreigners who are also illiterate and unable to communicate

This all leads to:

- disappointment
- paranoia and fear
- resentment
- further social withdrawal

Which finally ends in one of two things:

1) Go back home with a bitter taste in your mouth, ready to go off on an unbelievably boring tangent anytime anything related to anything you experience in Japan comes up in conversation. 

2) Stay in Japan, go to Hub every night or two, drink beers and bitch to other foreigners about your coldfish wife and how Japan is out to get you.

Every happy foreigner I know in Japan didn't come here with any of that shitty baggage.  Maybe one thing on the list, tops.
