Haha, definitely. I think I really hurt him once when I pointed out his German ways.
This is interesting. What is particularly German?
Well, it's hard to say because I grew up this way, but:
-I think we like rules more than other cultures.
-I think we're a culture of engineers, and it shows. Way more concerned with functionality than aesthetics.
-We hate ourselves. Seriously, Germans are their own harshest critics. There's also the "Erbschuld" (inherited guilt).
-This kind of ties into the last one: We have a beautiful country and don't really appreciate it. Half of Germany wants to escape to Sweden, the other half to Italy.
-We are often kind of petty. But looking at other cultures, I don't think that's exclusively German.
-One thing that's absolutely not appropriate anymore is Germany's aggressive image. It's hard to find a more pacifist society, I think. We've been burned, and we don't have a military culture to be proud of, at all.
-Our love for Hasselhoff exists, but it's mostly ironic (yes, we are capable of this kind of thing).
Well, I don't know. I like Germany, our culture, our people. Every culture has its tradeoffs.
I just remember Gustav talking dumb shit about Christmas and how he wouldn't raise his kids with it.
Germany is also rather unreligious. It's ironic, because Poland isn't, so that's another thing that's kinda German about him.
Personally, I love Christmas though. We still celebrate Carnival too, and that's much older and Pagan, I guess.
