Enjoy.  I wasted my money on their first shitty game, I'm not giving them anymore of my money or time.  They put a heavy emphasis on the story, but man, it was some god-awful shit.  Not even in the abstract... the outline of the story was fine, but the way they told it was just fucking awful.  Like the worst of George Lucas and Peter Jackson rolled into one.  The game itself was a big, bloated God of War knock-off with a heavy counter-focus but horrible collision detection.

Game's merits were that it looked pretty in stills, had an interesting magic system, and didn't completely suck from moment to moment.  Music was good too even though it was that atmospheric shit that I'm not over fond of.

I meant see it like watch it on a youtube. Fuck buying it, unless you're responding to someone else. If so, my bad.

You all brought this upon yourselves. No one would listen to Kat Bailey's podcast, Active Time Babble, forcing her to shut it down. Heck, she couldn't even get people to guest on it half the time. Well I hope you're happy, without the podcast she resorted to writing these articles. I hope all your sacred cows get accused of rape >:( >:( >:(

EmCee lays out the issue with the discrepancy. Seems like miscommunication:

I've found Platinum games like Bayonetta,Vanquish and MGR can lead to a strain of madness in people not used to such delightfully unforgiving games. It's always a pleasure to watch.

:bow TWD

Haven't played TLOU but I love how sonyfegs act like it is the only zombie game or whatever when TWD is getting people feels way before. I just doubt ND's ability to tell a story. I love their games but only Jak 2 was interesting in that regard and that was like if you were watching a Saturday morning cartoon - not that that's bad. And I'm supposed to believe after the Uncharted games last Gen they suddenly get their writing chops in order? LOL!

But it kind of goes too far. In season 2 of TWD, you have your choice of minigames such as Operation and Fetch after you get to summer camp.

I have never purchased DLC separately from the main game. I'll rent GOTY editions from Gamefly, or buy them at GS for 20 bucks at most.

The story in TWD is overall better than TLOU but there are key dramatic moments in TLOU that are better than TWD. Specifically the ending, which is fantastic.

I really liked TLOU's ending. It was a great departure from the norm, but TWD has those feels, tho. Telltale are emotional terrorists.

I hated the ending because I feel ND undid every bit of character development Joel had over the course of the game. Maybe that was the point? I still mostly enjoyed it, it's just weird how much praise it gets. The quality of storytelling is akin to the Dawn of the Dead remake, not exactly a revelation.

I don't really get why so many gamers are still impressed with the same old shit. There have been so many cinema-games that have done a great job of paying tribute to genre film. So they look better now, big whoop. It was more impressive when Metal Gear Solid did it on PS1, kinda weak that people still care so much about film-games 20 years later. Talk about stagnation.

Um. MGS in 1998 was fucking amazing in terms of pushing games in a cinematic sense. What Raban is saying is that games are trying to go after what games were doing in fucking 1998 with little progress. Not saying that MGS is actually well written.

In any case, her argument is flawed because at that point, you might as well pack it all up, because  practically  everything is a reiteration of something else. With her own argument, MGS1 shouldn't be worth celebrating because it is virtually Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake with better graphics, which by her own words,"big whoop."

I can see why you'd say this, but you're discrediting MGS' massive production value. Fully voice acted gameplay, staged in-game cutscenes that employ film techniques and complex camera movement, scripted sequences like the Hind-D chase, all of which was pretty rare for games at the time. And it's not just all still being used in the same way 20 years later, but the masses continue to heap tons of praise on it. Doesn't that bum anyone else out?

What he did was perfectly inline with his characterization.
Okay, so you're saying through the entire course of the game, Joel learned absolutely nothing? Because his decision in the end makes sense for the character we're introduced to, but after the events of the game I'd think Joel would've grown as a person.

Then again, him staying a stubborn, selfish old man is probably more realistic based on the men I've known in that age group :lol

In the beginning he doesn't care about Ellie due to what happened with his daughter. He doesn't want to become a father figure. Which is why he's so col around her. The only reason he was taking her to the fireflies was because it was what Tess wanted. The whole point of his narrative is him getting over his dead daughter and becoming the father figure to Ellie he needs to be. The end cutscene is that happening.

Joel's reluctance in the beginning didn't really stick out in my memory. I thought Joel took naturally to the whole "fatherhood" thing because the way he treated Ellie for most of the game was not unlike a strict and condescending type of father. I'd actually argue that if anything, Ellie didn't need any kind of father-figure, seeing how much more mature and capable she ends up being throughout the game.

I dunno, I had a hard time believing Ellie actually wanted to be with Joel considering there is a much larger volume of scenes where she's proving that she's capable and independant than scenes that explore Ellie's vulnerability and desire to have a guardian.

What Joel was going through is kinda the same as Ellie. Her whole story is about getting over the death of her friend (forgot her name). She acts like she's fine being alone but it's just an act and she really wants someone to be around, parents more than anything. So at the end when she tells Joel that she doesn't want everything they've gone through to be for nothing (IG, the death of Tess, death of her friend, etc) she accepts Joels lie because she knows Joel is doing what a father does in this situation and shielding her from the truth. She KNOWS the truth but is OK with this because they are now legitimately a "family" in a matter of speaking

obviously it's meant to be ambiguous and open to interpretation. so you may not agree with how I saw it.

Remember that Ellie is afraid of being alone and Joel has been around the longest by the time they meet with his brother.

I dunno, I had a hard time believing Ellie actually wanted to be with Joel considering there is a much larger volume of scenes where she's proving that she's capable and independant than scenes that explore Ellie's vulnerability and desire to have a guardian.

She is capable, but she still does not want to be alone.

Right but at least now I understand a perspective other than my own. I definitely liked The Last of Us, I just wonder when the hell this cinema-wankery is gonna stop. There's gotta be something better to spend a multi-million dollar game budget on than interactive CGI B-movies.
