Probably orders from on high after GAF admins were exposed as a Sony Propaganda Machine intentionally undermining Microsoft's progressive vision, now they can cover it up and pretend like Sony doesn't run the gaming side by corporate diktat. Then in a couple weeks another "insider" just happens to continue posting slander and libel about Microsoft.

Sorta like how they pretend Devo doesn't run the off-topic side because she's "not a moderator" yet anyone who crosses her is instantly permabanned.

:obama I like the arts in this one.

I like the way the artist uses pop reference to hint towards the traditional still life art of fruit merging into the natural subject via that chick's banana slope titties.

Yep. Resistance, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty. It probably would have sucked.

that reminds to finally set up the kickstarter for my rebirthing porn where i find a very small midget (less than 2 feet tall) and a very large woman and simulate a birthing sequence in a hospital with the midget complete with artificial umbilical cord and then have the midget 'baby', birthing doctor and nurses all engage in sexual intercourse with the 'mother'.

We're both right. He was fired by a trucking company because of his in-laws who are apparently higher ups at SOE. At least according to ONE of his shockingly funny suicide threads on GAF.

Nagamasa Azai is a well-rounded character with quick attacks and fast movement. He’s themed like a tokusatsu super hero (a combination of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider) and poses after everything he does. His moves use his sword and his shield, the swords for the bulk of his moves (such as drawing a laser cross into the air and shooting it outwards) and the shield for ranged attacks that draw enemies together (throwing it like a boomerang). His gimmick is that he can charge himself up to three levels albeit in a different way from Shibata Katsuie. Nagamasa has an invisible meter that builds as you attack people and you go up one level when it’s full. One of his special arts is used just for charging and you can see your progress while charging with it. The first level enhances his sword, the second level his shield, and the third his body. Level three makes his incredible strong, leaving laser slashes in the air with every strike and doing heavy damage will of his attacks. All of his special arts are powered up and enhanced and he can do special versions that cause him to pose while the screen freezes and Japanese text appears on the screen. Those will revert you back to level one however, which will eventually happen anyway after a certain amount of time.

Furthermore, as I mentioned earlier Nagamasa will pose after every move he does and will have some part of him glimmer or shine. If you do his charging special art right after that shine you will instantly charge one level. This lets you quickly build your levels while attacking. Even more interesting is that his charging special itself has two glimmer points on startup and if you time it right for both you will instantly charge up to level three. The problem is that the transformation takes so long that your combo will end. If you’re starting a combo putting yourself instantly into level three is great but mid-combo you’ll want to be get the one-level charges after every move since those allow you to keep your combo afterwards.

That’s a direction I think anyone can appreciate.

I completely understand why Mark and co would be skeptical about Sengoku Basara. The musou genre is infamous for its lack of challenge and lack of change over the past decade. But I want to back up JJ here because I really think Sengoku Basara is one of the best things Capcom has been putting out. People ask where old school Capcom went, where their talent for creating game’s filled with personality disappeared to, you can still see it alive and well in this series. Sengoku Basara exudes a charisma and attention to personality few games can match and, perhaps more surprisingly, it’s actually a fairly interesting action game.

:what nicca...

I mean Sengoku is alright and all in small doses, but it isn't old-school Capcom.

Quote
I imagine this is a large part of why Mark says he doesn’t find the concept of fighting thousands of enemies appealing. There haven’t been many, if any, games that have taken that concept and built a variety of combat situations out of it. It ends up feeling like you’re playing the same situation over and over. Because you are.

Which is partially true. Even the "Legendary Dark Knight" mode in DMC4 PC with it filling an entire room with enemies basically boils down to that Sengoku mass beating then the normal gameplay at times.

Quote
The stages in Sengoku Basara 4 have moved the focus away from the general “kill everything” style of musous and instead are trying to give the player something more involved, more interesting, and more varied- just like the series has already been doing with its cast. Capcom isn’t just resting on its laurels with Sengoku Basara. Capcom knows the problems of the musou genre and is trying to marry the genre’s very specific brand of power fantasy with a directed and focused game design. And that’s a direction I think anyone can appreciate.

I  haven't played SB4 but from what he's describing it isn't really varying the gameplay. It's just changing the stages and "flavor" to hide the numerous enemy beating you do in Musou/Sengoku, DW titles.

TL;DR for those of you: He's talking about how Capcom is improving the Musou genre with Sengoku Basara 4 and gives examples like "beating enemies determines an enemy in the stages stew" as "changing the genre from beating up numerous enemies" which is frankly bullshit.

(/Autism off because I'm bored and read all of that)

No but really: He's wrote out an essay that doesn't go anywhere on how the Musou genre is being improved with Sengoku Basara. From the ones I've tried, those aren't really changing the Musou genre so I have no clue where the hell he's getting the idea that Capcom is "improving" it from.

Exactly. But the thing is: They both revolve around "mass amount of enemies" and "beating them down."

He talked about 8-4 play's podcast dude talking about how the genre/games like that are stale. And I really can't disagree with that assessment.

(Now time for "Himusplaining"/autism about the Musou genre?)

Why do autists flock to Pokemon and Sonic?
-Appeals to their deep seated power fantasies
-Numbers/Maths
-Bright colors
-Relatively simple character designs (easy for tracing, re-coloring, and uploading to DeviantArt)

the highlight of my GAF week was seeing famousmortimer, in such a sombre and dutiful tone, twist the dagger that MS stuck in CBOAT's guts after a year of harbouring a creepy jealousy of his alpha leaker status.

Basara isn't really like Musou. It has an action focus. Musou has a strategy focus. It really isn't an improvement; it's its own thing entirely.

Yeah, pretty much.  It's also a lot crazier and over-the-top in comparison.  I think you just explained that guy's entire point in four sentences.   :lol

OK, sure, even though they do change the play mechanics with new entries, you certainly can't really disagree that it's more of the same every time.

But you can say that about so many other genres of games too.

I don't get the "SB is old-school Capcom" line though.  Don't agree with that at all.  I don't think of a game series that started in 2005 as "old-school Capcom."

Well, yeah. But he's trying to defend the Musou genre with Sengoku as a defense for the 8-4 guy (and many others) lack of interest in the genre because it's "stale" after numerous titles in that genre that is just "mass beating down of large groups of enemies with no deviation in combat."

Is there differences in stages and stuff? Sure, can't discount that. But for most people they see the same "XXXXXX/AAAAAAA/whatever button" mashing with no "style" like other games. He brings up Devil May Cry, that has Stinger in launcher and then guns or following up in the air... etc. differences in combat. Unless you played Legendary Dark Knight in DMC4 PC which then kinda pulled a Musou and showed large enemies in small rooms wasn't such a good idea...

Compare that/other titles with Musou/DW, SB... and yeah... you can get where the 8-4 guy is coming from.

...And again, I would have just said "can't you say that a lot of other genres are 'stale' too?" and ended it right there.   :P

Sp0rsk does have something with Basara- it's not like the Koei games where all you do is mash out combos with (mainly) two buttons.  There are special moves and 'style' comes from stringing everything together.  It's much more free-form in comparison and there are characters who can modify their attacks mid-combo/move and even a chain-grappler available.  I could write a 14,000 word essay on this but I think that's pretty much the gist of it.

Sure, but why not bitch about all the endless cookie cutter FPS games, fighting games, MMORPGs and GTA clones too then?
