To be fair to them: The beta did look like an upgrade, so if they did change the lighting for performance reasons, that's weird.

I imagine some of the more overzealous console users will be out for blood if the PC version is revealed to have the superior lighting intact. The comparison Grief posted in the downgrade thread makes the then-and-now difference blindingly obvious -- although the screenshots are heavily compressed, it's clear that in what is presumably the gold console build the lighting is awfully flat and the normal maps used to simulate the dents/bumps in the wall textures completely absent.
