When you think of turn based games you think of Japanese games? For real? And not Might and Magic or Baldurs Gate? :what

You're seriously telling me that those games come to mind first, over Final Fantasy and all that shit?

You have played 200 hours of Civ V. A turn based strategy game.

X-Com is hugely successful. Turn based.

The recent crpg revival? Turn based first person dungeon crawlers. Turn based infinity engine spiritual successors.

But no. Only weaboos like turn based and turn based is old and crappy. :beli

Look Esch,  if you want to play board games or D&D, then do so, but don't make video games conform to archaic, unnecessary, and time-wasting constraints.

No. But to act like western RPGs haven't had a history with turn based combat and gameplay is cute revisionist history.

Also, The only turn based Final Fantasy's are 1, 2, 3, and 10.

Wasn't that Dragona?

Nope, it was Red Scarlet. We were a real clubhouse / clique back in the day and she didn't like the way we reacted to her bandwagoning about some event so she locked the thread and promised to go through every post in it, banning anyone who posted anything ban worthy.

Of course this was an insurmountable task and she eventually gave up, but the damage was done. I think we suffered at least one perm and a few long-term bans from the ground she was able to cover as well as our reaction as a community to her actions.

It sucked because she'd been diplomatic with us in the past (I once negotiated the undoing of a member's permaban with her) but tempers flared and no one backed down so we were left with a desert called peace. In our current incarnation we're a subforum on a website that's in no way whatsoever affiliated with GAF and the people who post there have no fucking clue who most of us are because we keep to ourselves.

But they intersect all the time. Valyrie Profile 2, final Fantasy tactics, Warcraft 3, and kings Bounty are good examples.

So? Jazz and death metal intersect all the time too.

Huh? These games are STRATEGY rpgs. The merging of these two genres is very common, and they are also the most common type of turn based game. Liking turn based strategy but not turn based RPGs makes no sense , breh. Thanks for Eschsplaining. :hitler

Oh, I see. I remember the incident but I thought it was Dragona since she somehow got that reputation for being overzealous or whatever. Surely it wasn't just for handing out short bans for shitty female driver jokes and stuff.

I can see what you're saying, tbh (and given our past dealings with her) her reaction seemed very unusual at the time, especially the stakes to which it went.

We were very unruly back then doe (no one ever moderated the thread regularly), so I can see why a mod would be sick of our shit and blow up eventually.  :yeshrug

Turn-based gaming is godly, but I'm not surprised that today's youth can't appreciate the deep strategy of planning out each move carefully and executing it to perfection the way us older folks used to do way back in the 90's. It's like a fine wine, brehs, but if you ain't go the taste then you'll never know.

I mean I get why you'd dislike turn based of you want to just mindlessly hack away at shit, but some of us like kicking back and enjoying the satisfaction of formulating a winning strategy. It's basically using your brain vs. your thumbs.
Who says you can't formulate strategies in real time or is your mind that  :flabbypd ?

Real time rpgs suck ass because you have to rely on shitty AI partners. If turns suck because they're based around an old limitation of the genre, real time sucks because technology isn't good enough to make the AI palpable.

RTS's are stressful as fuck, especially when you have a ton of moving parts. The argument is that it's easier to unwind with a turn-based because everything's segmented.

But to answer your question, yes.  :fbm

And 4X's like Civ and Age of Wonders contain rpg elements, what with perk systems, a bevy of playable civ's/classes with a myriad of victory possibilities, so imo it's not disingenuous to include those in an rpg discussion.

There is a general attribution issue when it comes to Dragona.  She certainly did run through threads with a lawn mower sometimes, but more than half of the shit she gets blamed for wasn't her at all.  When people don't know who banned them, they're forced to guess, and she was many people's favorite guess.

If it was something that related to women, it was generally her and before I knew why she left, I assumed it was because Evilore didn't want a mod running roughshod over the userbase to the point people would stop posting.

New Years 1999 was the best New Years ever and I couldn't even drink. All this hysteria for months - over a year - about Y2k.Talking about, we're going to lose EVERYTHING and modern civilization will crumble as we know it! Tick tock, clock strikes 12 and we still have electricity, we still have internet, we still have tv, we still have teenagers cyber sexing in aim chat rooms, shit is fine. I drank my sparkling wine, went home, and played some Final Fantasy VIII till 2 in the morn.

We were in the basement of our house (to avoid random gunshots according to my mom, despite the fact that we were in the suburbs then), watching the countdown on TV. Nothing happened, and then my dad waxed poetic on the fact that only god knew the future, and this proved man/science weren't as smart as they thought they were.

scar is awesome.  hate the way people frame her demodding, with that "divulged private/personal information" line.  she gave out someone's ban reason, which admittedly was against lore's rules, but hardly the breach people imagine when you use that particular wording.

It's been spun as if she gave out someone's name, phone number, or address. smh

scarlet's crime wasn't giving out ban info, really.  her crime was "aiding" someone trying to start a splinter forum.  for whatever reason, lore is more sensitive about the splinter forums than one would expect.  deep down, he probably fears one of them actually pulling off a miracle and hurting GAF, i guess, which is a bit crazy but understandable when you realize evilore has absolutely no work skills or job experience whatsoever.  if anything killed his golden goose, he'd be right fucked.

Unlike Lowtax, EL is slightly competent. He'll be able to ride it out for a few years. There's enough stans clamoring to defend their corporation of choice waiting to get into neogaf to make it seem slightly exclusive.
