Well I agree. But in 2014 I'd say most western women who are housewives do it willingly. Though I could be underestimating the idea that some women think it is the only option through a life time of misogyny and sexism. But among the housewives I personally know it was something they decided on and personally enjoy rather than something society told them they were to aspire to. But I'm sure there are plenty of the latter out there.

Corned beef used to be poor people food (which is why in America it was a hallmark of the Irish and then Jewish communities), but it's way too damn expensive now. I can only really afford it once a month (barring the occasional Reuben) except for that time in March when grocery stores overstock it to take advantage of a certain ethnic holiday and I am sure to take advantage of the resulting price disequilibrium like a good international banker.

Unfortunately, it's a different issue for me entirely: I'm the bigot to the people around me. Let me explain.

Basically, I'm one of the youngest interning and don't talk much to my peers, because there's always drama with any conversation, and many topics just don't interest/click with me. They talk politics, they talk beliefs, and I try to stay out of it best I can, but always get labeled regardless of anything I say or don't say. One time I was asked, who I voted for, I didn't say. Later, someone casually asked me if I was voting in the primaries, to which I foolishly said "No, because I am not a registered anything" which somehow made half the office think I was a republican for some reason (I don't mind sharing some stuff with you guys; I'm an independent because I simply don't feel comfortable being locked into a specific party). Then the topic of abortion came up and I was asked if I was pro-life or pro choice, to which I said "it's stupid to call it that, most everyone's pro-life; they should just call it pro abortion/anti abortion) which made some of the pro life AND the pro choice people mad at me for weeks. Most recently, like 4 of them think I'm some sort of closet homosexual because I rarely bring up girls and during a lapse in judgement, said I didn't vote on our state's gay marriage amendment, I didn't speak of my opinions one way or the other (I didn't vote for it one way or the other because I don't believe that the government should be dealing with marriage period, it's none of the government's business. As such, it wouldn't be right for me to cast a vote on the topic). Oh, and one time I was introduced to a new girl and didn't ask her out, one of the guys asked me if I was a racist (because if you don't want to date someone who is a different race than you, then you are obviously a racist apparently. I just wanna be single, not slandered against, and happy, is that too much to ask?).

With all this type of discussion happening that I don't want to be a part in, I get labeled if I don't speak up; that is not right. I am politically an independent who doesn't believe in the government having anything to do with marriage and who dislikes abortion but absolutely believes it should be legal. I also don't hate people just because their race, gender, sex, orientation or religion (or lack thereof) etc is different than mine. I don't see how anyone could call me a bigot with a straight face. Anyone else unfortunately labeled as the bigot in their circle?
