Hornbat...:beli

Anyways, you guys notice how the problems in The Simpsons and Married With Children are minuscule to today? Al can afford a nice two story house working as a shoe salesman, he's got a family - though not a perfect family - and a pretty wife who wants to fuck him. Back then, the show was advertised as being that life is now simply over for Al. But in 2014, that life looks so fucking good. Oh, how times have changed.

Sitcom problems are always blown out of proportion.

Oh no, Marcia has to figure out how to get out of going to the dance with someone. THE WORLD IS GOING TO FUCKING END IF SHE DOESN'T FIND SOME WAY OUT!

OH THANK GOD THE EARTH IS SAVED

no different than friends where a bunch of jobless nobodies lived in balla apartments in the middle of manhattan of all places. or step by step's contractor and a beautician with a giant-ass house and six kids. :lol etc etc

roseanne was probably the closest to 'real shit' and that was definitely softened for prime time.

I stopped watching multi cam  sitcoms in favor of single tens years ago. Do the characters have jobs like that and still afford high class shit? Or do their jobs now reflect the times?

Step by step! Day by dayyyy (Day by dayyyy!!!!)

My mom always complained about unrealistically opulent apartments/houses in every movie and TV that had them.

Everybody has their own hell. For Al, it was being married to an annoying wife and children and having to work day-in, day-out as a women's shoe salesman.

raising hope was pretty honest about it, I think, from what little I saw of it. same with malcom in the middle. I don't really watch much in the way of sitcoms in general but friends was definitely the most over the top I have ever seen. doesn't really bother me, just kind of funny. besides, nobody wants to see some poor real world shit when they're trying to forget their horrible lives and have some laughs.

There's an episode of Married with Children where Al has to make it home to watch John Wayne's Hondo because if he misses it he won't be able to see it on TV again until February 18, 2011.

Guess what episode of Married with Children they showed in rerun on February 18, 2011 when I was watching it in a hotel that night. :goty

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I watched the episode completely unaware of the date but just because I wanted to watch Married with Children.  :picard

Malcolm in the middle is a single cam. Most single cams tend to keep it real. It's the multi cam laugh track ones that tend to have the main characters living in two story houses when they work as trashmen.

The overall level of frauding on that show was unbelievable. Dudes had great apartments, perfect hair, nice clothes. Ross was an palaeontologist for christ sake and he was on some ridiculous 250k per year apartment shit :whew
i think ross and chandler were the only ones with actual, regular income/employment haha.

It's more like,"there goes all our wedding gift money" hence the mix of happiness/regret when Patrick Duffey's title card pops up.

Seinfeld was completely unrealistic when it came to the pussy Jerry and George got. Kramer living in that apartment despite being a hobo was explained by him being friends with Paul from Mad About You.

King Of Queens was realistic at times when it came to income, but got fucking stupid towards the end of the run.

I dunno. Jerry's a comedian and he's kind of cute in those denim jeans in a 90's sort of way. George is a manipulator. He got pussy by lying about his job once. Oh wait, it was Jerry who started that. Still.

When I was 4th grade (1995-1996) the teacher next door came over to sub our class a lot. She kept singing this song called smelly cat and said it was from a show called Friends. I had never seen Friends at that point, but that was one of the most unfunny things I had heard in my short 10 year old life. When I finally watched Friends I wasn't surprised that song came from that show. Why did I ever bother watching it? Total trash.

This is how I feel about Frasier. A simp, on that  :hitler, who constantly obsesses over his failed relationships yet he's pulling in all these chicks? Not to mention how he somehow manages to fuck his ex-wife and/or coworker once a season. They even lampshade it one episode by bringing back every woman he's ever been with, explained away by Frasier having an identity/relationship crisis in the middle of the woods.

Sitcoms involve getting laid a lot is mostly due to guest stars pulling in numbers. It ain't exactly rocket science. Seinfeld also had jokes about all sorts of different types of shit. So having one women with all these weird quirks would get boring after a while. So you have man hands, the virgin, two face, etc.

At the end of the day, they're all silly comedy shows. As long as they were a decent watch I didn't care. Quality of multi cam sitcoms has definitely gone way down the shitter after the 90's ended.

Yes. I watched MadTV every week from when it aired to like 2001 or some shit.

Scrubs is not without it's flaws, but was still a funny show. Well, up until the horrible 6th and 7th seasons(the 8th was not a return to form, but good and a great end to the show). Always Sunny is funny and that's why I still like it. One of the few shows where they made the flanderization of the characters work.

Community? Are you guys still 16 or something?

I'm not really upping Community. Scrubs and Community are both highly flawed shows. Sunny is the only classic on that list Squiddy posted.

Just joshing you. :heh

Jane's family details are pretty scant, from my memory. A family of artists is pretty hippie (white) doe.

I was thinking more in terms of how white Daria's nuclear family was when I made that proclamation because damn, they was some white-ass white people.

Always Sunny is great but some of it can get a little tiresome. I enjoyed Scrubs more since it's earnest and brought the feels(tm) on several occasions.

There's only one bad season of Scrubs: season 9.

9 should have been a spinoff as originally intended. In that light, it's not bad.

Yeaah not getting this Scrubs shade, 6th and 7th seasons sucked for sure, and it wasn't ever great but I don't see it as a show you could vehemently hate, plus: Elizabeth Banks. The first two seasons of Community were good, then the third went off the deep end; those last three all suck.

Let's be real, none of the 3 is a classic. Cult classics? Sure. Classics? No.

Ten years from now, I bet Scrubs will be considered an 00s sitcom classic, much like how Seinfield is the 90s sitcom classic.
