SRIV looks like child's play compared to GTAV

just as the prophecies foretold, himu has abandoned saints row for the empty promises of another gta. let us never forget this awful moment.

Footage of gameplay of the game makes it look unnecessary as a product. It's like, I could just boot up The Third and install this.

Feels pointless throwing 60 bucks at it.

Suuuuure, except that if you have SR3 on Steam, you get $5 off when you preorder SRIV, dropping the already easily worth it price down to a "only a fucktard would miss this" price of $45.

http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/06/12/saints-row-iv-gameplay-demo-ign-live-e3-2013

New Saints Row 4 demo.

I dunno, I've been a fan of Saints Row since 1 and I'm not feeling this game demo. It really does look like an expansion to 3, and as much as I like 3, this looks way too similar. It doesn't really look like it deserves the name of IV and watching footage I ask myself what the point of the game is because it looks the same exact thing as 3 but with new abilities. It could also be argued this is too over the top and Volition and are getting stupid with how the series is going but the fact the game takes place in an VR environment makes things better. I dunno, I just see a desperate attempt to be wacky and very samey game play of 3. It reeks of cash grab.

Doesn't stop me from getting it but at this point in time SRIV looks like child's play compared to GTAV to me and this seals SR4 as the game I get on launch and not open until Christmas.
Yeah I agree. I'm sure 4 will be a good game, but I actually won't be getting it anytime soon.

I just feel pretty satisfied by 3 and just not in the mood for another Saints Row and 4 just kind of looks like more of the same, just even more stupid and over the top. And well I feel like three was enough and it just feels like this is going too far.

And honestly 3 got kind of boring to play towards the end and while the humor was fun, I haven't been able to play Sr3 more than once.

And yeah GTAV comes out and well that will have it's own awesome brand of humor plus everything else I like about open world games.

It's just that SR4 and GTA5 are what, two weeks apart? Ain't no one got no time for that. :gurl

It probably helps I've only played SR3 once, which in comparison to SR2 is peanuts. I think my clock for SR2 exceeded 120 hours.

I also thought SR 2 was kind of better than 3. I mean three finally brings the series to really AAA(i guess) presentation. But I felt the middle of the game kind of was boring and it got a little too silly. I liked the corny over the top "gangsta" stuff of two. I liked the mission structure with having you go after the silly gang stereotype's individually all leading to a big end. And 3 while looking great and turly giving you tons of stuff for it's sandbox, moved away from that. Good game no doubt, but I think two was better.

Agreed. The gangs in 3 are terribly underdeveloped. That one guy of the Morning star dies out of nowhere. You don't even get to kill him yourself! :wag Very  Un-Saints Row. 1 and 2 had a story for each gang and that went toward a big climax. You could also tackle them in any order and replay any mission you wanted. 3 is too linear and if you do a side mission that hasn't been introduced in the story? You missed a story mission. Very light on content.

And idolninja said that the tone of 4 is more akin to 2 than 3. So good news.

I didn't mind it a few months ago, true. But that was months ago when it was revealed. I kind of expect a better sense of marketing a mere month away from launch. It makes no sense they have done an absolutely terrible job to accentuate the differences between this and The Third, the ability to fly and use super powers aside.

I'm cautiously siding with Himuro on this.  I loooooooved SR3.  But the DLC episodes were just "ok" and I'm always cautious when they take expansion packs and then the publisher says "DEVS TURN THIS INTO A FULL $60 GAME".  It's not like a game where they had this idea for a sequel and time and budget to realize their ideas.  This is a made by committee game that was rushed out to cash in on the popularity of SR3 in an attempt to get more money for THQ before they went belly up (but that happened anyways).

Can it still be great?  Sure.  But I'll take a wait and see approach and probably wait for a decent sale.

GTAV is a little iffy too because GTAIV was absolute trash.  But the trailer was impressive and the staff is completely different than GTAIV so it's like a fresh start for the series.  Plus the staff being mostly RDR team and RDR being the best sandbox game this generation gives it a lot of credit too.

That video you posted isn't even new. It's from E3 and it's been up on IGN since the day they demoed it, back in early June. That was a month and a half ago.

They show off almost nothing new. 90% of the stuff in that video was in Saints Row 3. We're trying really hard to convince people that SR4 is more than just glorified DLC, and videos like this aren't helping.

HOLY FRAK! I had forgotten about Galactica 1980.

Those were in SR3 as well though, at least in one of the DLC packs, IIRC.

Sure, but didn't North have the San Diego guys to come and help develop GTAV? Could be wrong on that, and I don't remember where I read it, but even if you use that as an argument. TLAD and Gay Tony were so much better than GTAIV and were made by North, once again reinforcing that I highly doubt V will be a stinker like IV. TLAD and Gay Tony were greeeat.

So it feels like all the skepticism towards V feels half baked, that the people who keep trying to find any excuse to be skeptical towards a great looking game, and many of them haven't haven't played RDR, Chinatown Wars, MP3, or the Episodes from Liberty City to begin with. They complaining about GTAIV, a single game that came out in 2008, when Rockstar has released plenty of great games - within the GTAIV game itself even - since then. It's pretty hilarious.

I think that Rockstar North can mandate help from its studios in many ways, and that there is a great deal of distributed development. I even recall reading that the R* studios helped Team Bondi because LA Noire wasn't going to ship without the additional help.

However, my impression is that Rockstar North is the the big daddy which will ride in and pressgang staff into helping, but aren't really the type to request or even admit that they need help. Also, something-something-17-million-units-sold tends to make a developer think they did something right, even if you and I agree that GTA IV is the least enjoyable game in the series.

Weird, I know...!

TLAD and TBOGT were both much better than the vanilla GTA IV, I agree. RDR and MP3 have scads of multiplayer improvements to boot. I am hopeful that Rockstar North will incorporate all of that. In fact, I'll be stunned if they don't.

Well, what people have been saying down the grapevine for the last year or two is that GTAV is San Diego even if North is taking credit.  That's what has me interested.  If it's really North, all interest lost.

I am both an SR and GTA fan, and even in my doubts, I never claimed that the game would be bad or not awesome, it was only rant that SR4 looks like the same thing as SR3. Nope, you're no longer allowed to be excited about it.  Your doubting has been registered and we don't appreciate your poor attitude.  We'll be enjoying ALL the pixelated cock while you're hanging out with those 3 misfit fucktards in GTA5.

You're the one who is all "I'ma play GTA5 first cause they're making a bunch of unrealistic gameplay promises and not going into the fact that they're going to force feed a dumb story, and let SRIV sit on the backburner"

:patel

You assume this is because I'm trying to start an SR vs GTA thing, and less because these are two sandbox games coming out three weeks away from each other. Over the course of three games, I have clocked an easy over 200 hours with the Saints Row franchise. They take up a lot of my time when they're released, and I play the shit out of them. I just don't want go from one sandbox to another one and risk burnout. Since I'll already have SR4, if GTAV ends up sucking, I'll already have it boxed away and ready to go.

I'd do the same thing if there were two jrgps coming out at the same time, and I have. When Monster Hunter came out I bought but didn't play Soul Hackers because I didn't want to risk NUMBERS burnout before SMT4 hit. That's how I roll: variety is very important to my gaming palette.

Play as the President of the United States in a story that spans countries, space, and time. Saints Row IV is to Saints Row: The Third what Saints Row: The Third is to Do The Right Thing. You’re not ready.

I started replaying SR3 again on PC.  It runs noticeably better for me with the Gentlemen Of Steelport mod installed.  Now it runs pretty smoothly at 1920x1080!

I went with a huge black female Russian this time.
