I don't know what smooth edge means. I just do it point by point 'cos all I have is a trackpad. Then put a little shadow on to break it out a bit and clean things up.

Edge softening was a feature I used to use in CS3. Sadly I only have ghetto PS6 now so I cant do much in the way of aesthetics. (I am far too lazy to download and deal with cracked Abode wares)
