I've got a friend who is running it this year. Scary stuff.

I talked to my wife as well, she works for Liberty Mutual and was heading out there (corporate HQ) later in the week for meetings. She said the hotel she stays at is right at the intersection of the finish line.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), it's Patriot's Day today, so very few people were at work down there.

So far the Tea Party hasn't really been involved in any violence so assuming their involvement seems desperate. That being said this being tax day, the target being Boston, and it being Patriot's Day could indeed suggest domestic terrorism. It sounds like the this could have been a lot worse, but multiple bombs didn't go off and the big one detonated at a period where there weren't many people around (relatively, compared to the busier moments of the marathon).

Anyways, this sucks. Was born in Cambridge and parents still have friends in the area, though it's super unlikely they were among those hurt. If they've already got the right suspect that's good, though whoever it is we can look forward to weeks of posturing over whether the ethnicity of the bomber proves anything.
