Anyways since trading my 3DS to demi all these sweet 3DS announcements have rolled right off of me, but this one stuck. I didn't want to accept it at first, but now I'm starting to feel the salt. Enough that I want to go buy a regular 3DS when I get off work today. Damn you, Nintendo.

Nintendo always goes into panic mode when their hw bombs. In any case 3ds sw was already picking up last year. Now they're going all out. It took two years for DS to have a competent library. Actually the same is true for ANY system not named Dreamcast.

It's aged horribly, but then, a lot of NES games have... LOZ is a lot more re-playable than the first Metroid is.
I think a lot of people probably stop on LOZ before they even get their first extra heart - its really good (for its' time) once you get over the initial hurdles

Music is stuck in my head to this day.

LTTP is my favourite game of all time, easily. I think they're going to have a job on their hands making a worthy sequel, but I am encouraged by their balls in doing so. Being of the generation where its predecessor was the hot shit, its like they're making it just for us!

Imagining it being good, yet still unappreciated by all the ingrates who started with OOT in '98 makes my eyes all twitchy.

I dunno. Zelda 1 was designed with other people in mind out side the game. I think the zeld aformula has gotten too stale for it s own good. Zelda 1 is a good template to go back to imo.

I agree with mr. Grumpy McGrumpypants. Zelda 1 is a fun game, just suffers a little due to it's age. But in these days of Dark Souls being praised for it's obfuscation I don't really see any issues with it. Still vastly prefer it to Ocarina and it's ilk.

Zelda to me was always about the adventure and sense of wonderment, I think established formulas really ruin it so it's difficult to enjoy more recent zelda games for me because all that's left to enjoy is the combat and the puzzles. I don't like Zelda combat and the puzzles, while well made, don't strike me as all that interesting or fun. I liked Wind Waker because it felt like it broke from the established Zelda series with it's incessant sailing and cutesy art. It still had the same combat and puzzles, but at least I got to sail around the various islands and talk to Tingle and the fancy french fish.

Ehh the graphics are fine. Tower of Hera MK 2 looks like tower of hera, link looks like link... I'd be happier if it was crazy expressive like Wind Waker, but it looks nice enough to me, and runs really fast and fluid. The music sounds pretty good. I'm hoping we see other areas at E3

if you decide to play zelda 1 go read where you can find the red ring,the two power up swords and the entrance to dungeon 8 (or whatever the hidden dungeon number is) otherwise you deal crappy damage,die in 2 hits against certain enemies and you'll probably say "fuck this shit" before ending the game

or you could just play link's awakening instead

I don't know how miiverse works for virtual console, but if you could get vague hints from the community to guide you, yeah, it would play fine for a modern audience. I don't know how many are willing to sit down and play Zelda 1 bare in 2013.

Metroid is different because I don't think it's really worth playing unless you're determined to see the series' roots. Zelda 1 is its own experience.

It build on what LttP started. Excellent game all-around. I couldn't get into the Oracle games because they seemed like LA rehashes, though.

At least OoT's accolades were deserved. Everything in LA was better done in LttP from dungeons to exploration to puzzles to sequence breaking to non linearity.
