If they wanted to focus on the dying thing known as TV in a product that has to last 7-8 years, I don't know why this didn't have a built in TV tuner. Or if it has to be cable box dependent, why not make it a Slingbox competitor and have an app on all smartphone platforms to stream all your DVR content to your phone and tablet? That's how people access content.

There are going to be a lot of confused parents and grandparents at GameStop this holiday season, and to be perfectly honest I see no reason for GameStop to help them; what financial incentive do they have to sell this console?

see I got the complete opposite from it, they showed exactly what their new console was about.  I always thought kinect and apps were annoying but ignorable but at the same time I knew they were dangerous and I guess I was right.  I have a buddy who got the Kinect bundle because he told the Best Buy guy he wanted "the best 360",  I wonder how many other clueless people out there did the same thing and now we have the xbox one.

But it's not an all in one box; you still need a cable box. If you're a non-gamer interested in this as a streaming box, you'll have to pay an XBL sub on top of your monthly Netflix/Hulu/HBO subs. Why would a non gamer buy this instead of a Roku?

Microsoft’s Mattrick says he doesn’t think compatibility is really a problem. He said only 5% of customers play older games on a new videogame system anyway, so spending time and money to develop technology to allow them to play older games isn’t worth it.

The deal is worth $400 million over five years for the NFL, according to a person familiar with the agreement. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because financial details have not been made public.

"When you think about the sidelines, what is most important for us is how you make the game of football better, make what the coaches and players do better, using technology but preserving the competition," said Brian Rolapp, chief operating officer of NFL Media. "The challenge is how to bring technology to make it a better experience for them and for the fans.

"You can start with how we communicate with each other, whether it's game officials or coaches. Coaches can look at formations as they develop. We'll look at how do you do the still photos better, get more into real time? Is there a more efficient way to give replay officials a way of doing reviews better through technology?"

That's for the future, albeit the not-too-distant future.


Fans will get new television viewing innovations, including the ability to watch games, Skype video chat with other fans, view statistics, access highlights in real time and gather fantasy information about players and teams -- all on a single screen. For those who prefer multiple screens, fans can get an even deeper experience on mobile devices and tablets with SmartGlass technology.
