A friend of mine who writes for a big Xbox site mentions strong rumors of MS unveiling an exclusive Japanese RPG for the system. Really hope that this isn't Lost Odyssey 2, I don't want to buy Xbone and that game would probably sell me on one  :-\

I doubt they will do another Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey any time soon. I like both and Gooch is a handsome mustache but considering MS didn't green light Alan Wake and went for a total new IP instead, yeah this isn't happening.

Plus Tri-Ace (Star Ocean 4 didn't happen) or someone else in Japan can make less expensive games for about the same value.

LO2 would be cool at least this time people can admit they like it. Now Final Fantasy has had it's wig ripped off.

If MS is funding another JRPG I'm hoping for a new Panzer Dragoon saga RPG or even maybe a sequel to Skies Of Arcadia.

reality of that is probably low as hell.

They're going to have a hard time reaching that goal of one billion sold if they're just blowing off industrialized countries with over a hundred million people.
They don't need to sell a billion of anything to make this successful. MS sold a shit ton of 360s with next to no presense in Japan, they can do it again theoretically. But they likely won't because the system seems to disregard Europe. Might as well name it USAbox

Popular western games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto still sell pretty well in Japan. The market might not be worth buying third-party exclusives for, but it's not insignificant.

You also have Dark Souls and several smaller franchises in genres such as RPG and fighting. Each individually doesn't matter, but if you add them together they still sell a decent amount in America, right? It might also steer away fans to the PS4 and then they'll lose some of the sports and shooting sales.

They're nice to have, but I think a platform could make a fine go of it in the USA without them.
You're probably right. I asked a friend about his opinions of the new Xbox and his reply was "I just want to play FIFA". He will stick with his 360 as long as they continue to release FIFA for it and then upgrade to the next Xbox.

Yeah, I'm just laughing at the Microsoft guy who said they're going to sell a billion, PD.  I know they don't need Japan to reach whatever their goals are, that's pretty clear by how soundly they're sending the message that the country can go fuck itself.
Wait, someone from MS actually said they're gonna sell a billion? Oh man, I assumed you were talking about the 1b software investment comment. I guess each MS guy is trying to 1up the next with baffling statements lmao

I've heard Europe is currently the fastest growing market for gaming, dunno if it's true or not. Still I just don't understand them apparently blowing the region off outside of the "here's FIFA ya freaks" moment. More than a few people there don't have the most steady Internet connections, nor does nearly a half a billion NFL investment matter to them at all. I bet Roger Goddell was excited about that though, given the league's current plans on marketing the sport to the UK; I'd be curious to see whether MS signs a deal with Sky Network within the next few months. The NFL will remain a product UKers casually watch once a year during the London game, out of curiousity; I don't believe the expansion plan will work, and XB1 won't change things.

As a collective, absolutely. Capcom, SEGA, Konami, Eidos, Square Enix, Atlus etc sum up to be quite a significant bunch of sales and would be missed by gamers.

Nope.

Oscar is showing the hard data there, or at least giving a broad, real, data-based picture.

But even without that, can you name a Microsoft published 360 game which came anywhere near returning on its initial investment?

Japanese titles performed poorly overseas overall, and the 360 hardware in Japan can be represented in interpretive dance by flinging the dancer off the roof of the theater and into a pile of garbage. MS put a huge amount of effort into the launch, and Japan pissed all over it. It wouldn't surprise me if MS feels a little like pissing back.

Do you have some data for the EU?Or even better,if you were a console maker what Japanese games would you push in the EU?

People often say that EU likes Japanese games,not sure how true that is today.

   Mostly correct. During the 1990's, MS was
obsessed with potential threats to Windows.
When Sony introduced the PlayStation they
bleated about how it was like putting a computer
in the living room and named their gaming
division 'Sony Computer Entertainment' and blah blah. MS took the imaginary threat seriously and
basically came up with the Xbox to crush what
they thought could be a threat to Windows. It's important to realize that starting in the 1990's
and continuing on until today, everything MS has
created has fundamentally been a reactionary
product. They see a company come up with
something, they decide it could be a threat to
them, and they come up with a similar competing product. There is nothing resembling
a creative impulse at MS, just a constant paranoia
about competition and desire to protect their
Windows monopoly. Macintosh -> Windows
Netscape -> Internet Explorer
Java -> ActiveX
OpenGL -> DirectX
PlayStation -> Xbox
Palm -> Windows Mobile iPod -> Zune
iPhone -> Windows Phone
Google -> Bing And so on and so forth. Once you understand the
kind of company MS is, then you can understand
how they could make something like the Xbone.

Well they didn't show much exactly,blame MS sloppy performance.It's much easier and fun to harp about negatives too.

There is some interesting stuff about controller though,brb

http://mashable.com/2013/05/21/xbox-ones-new-controller-hands-on/

Quote
The two analog sticks are slightly smaller and have been redesigned with new ridges instead of strategically placed bumps. On engineer told me they now take 25-percent less force to move. And then there is the D-Pad which got a much needed design – it’s now a much more aggressive “X” or plus sign.

During a tour of Microsoft’s Xbox Scientific Labs, engineers explained to us that a key change—flipping the rear battery pack 90-degrees and putting it inside the controller — has shifted the center of gravity, making the new device “feel” lighter. It’s true, it did.

The new controller is also filled with some new technology, the most noticeable of which might be the new haptic feedback motors in the triggers, (it also now use magnetic sensors instead of mechanical ones). The Xbox One controllers still have the same two larger motors for gameplay vibration (explosions, getting shot, etc), but now there’s a tiny motor in each trigger, which means you can get new, subtle bits of feedback during gameplay...

On the front of the new controller, you’ll find an IR sensor. It allows it to communicate with the Xbox One’s new Kinect controller. While Microsoft didn’t go into great detail about how this will be used in gameplay, it does add one interesting feature. Imagine there are two people playing in front of an Xbox One. The Kinect knows, via facial recognition, who they are. It also knows, thanks to the IR sensors, who is holding which controller. If the two players switch controllers, they do not start controlling each other’s characters. Instead, Xbox One sees that they are each holding different controllers and communicates with the controllers through Kinect to switch player controls.

There is also a high-speed connection port on the Xbox One controller, but Microsoft wasn’t ready to offer any details on what future peripherals might plug into it.

I bet that port is for some VR glasses.

Quote
One of my stops on the Microsoft campus was to a testing lab were they’ve built proprietary systems to torture test the new controllers. From the looks of things, these controllers are fairly tough: I saw a robot arm swinging a controller around to ensure that no random buttons get hit during intense game play or, I guess, anger.

Microsoft has also been putting the near final controllers through a rigorous test where they replicate 10 year's worth of button depressions in two days (that’s roughly 2 million presses, which is 4-5 presses per second). Not only were they testing button durability, but the system also read the actuation on the other side to record any and all fails. I also saw a slo-mo video of a drop-test where the Xbox One controller bounced off a hard floor; only section of plastic popped off, as it was designed to do, so so the engineers could see the real-time effects of the drop on internal components. The engineer told us the controller performed as expected.

DRE was nowhere near RROD disaster.You can consider yourself very lucky if you managed through first year.Not to mention that RROD repair was far far more complicated(basically impossible).

360 initially had 3 months warranty in US and it even failed to work properly within that time.

Yeah RROD was a much bigger disaster then whatever was wrong with PS2.

I kind of think next gen won't have these problems.
