Dude by 2002 - after year of owning ps2 - my ps2 could no longer read CDs (blue back Games) and half the time I used a DVD (game) I had to put it in at least ten times in order to get it to work. I bought three ps2s so maybe my perspective is skewed.

I never, ever, had a DRE on any of my PS2s. NEVER.

I had a Falcon 360 RROD and those were said to be resistant to it.

Yeah I think so.

I had my xbox die like 2/3 times and my mate had his die 6.

I only had a PS2 for a few months, sold it to my friend and it never died.

yeah i bought two ps2 too,my first one stopped reading dvd of any sort,we repaired it but then for some reason some games started having glitched graphics (most amusing was dark chronicle whose glitch made the game unplayable because it made a mess appear right in front of the camera) and the current one i have can't read CDs anymore

yeah, my (first year, not launch) PS2 had trouble with CDs after 6 or 7 years.  Ended up buying a cheap slim to continue playing way of the samurai and stuff.  Launch 360 lasted from 2005 to 2009, which sounds pretty lucky, tbh.

In fact, time for another edition of Fun Facts.

On the NA 360 top games list, the first Japanese game comes in at 49th place.  It's RE5, natch.  Capcom has two more in top 100, til our next Japanese publisher arrives in 106th place.  That's SE, of course, with the obvious.  Coming in next, at 131st, is Namco.  Tecmo follows soon after.  Sega, 173rd.  Konami arrives at 437th place.

Of these publishers, Capcom appears the most and the highest, with about six games in the top 200.  SEGA appears often but not very high, Namco appears about four times in the top 300, and the Eidos branch of SE also appears a few times in the top 300.  Tecmo Koei has like three in the top 400.  Konami, lol.  Atlus?  Lol, the only game they even had any minor success with was Catherine, which sold under 100k on Xbox and doesn't appear in the top 500.

MS doesn't need them.  At most, Eidos (but not SE), Capcom, and maybe Namco would be worth courting, but they could definitely get by without the lot, no sweat.

Where would Metal Gear Solid 4 fall on that list, assuming PS3's list is similar to the 360's?

The only 'Japanese presence' at the reveal was Kojima for a second.

Mine died. I could fix the misaligned laser the first few times it stopped reading discs. Eventually got a cheap replacement from a WoW addict who needed the money for the subscription. :lol
It's the only console that ever broke on me. Never had to turn my PS on its face or side to play games and the SNES and Gamecube were sturdy systems. My 360 is one of the later models, forgot which, but pre-'slim'. Still going, but I haven't used it much at all these past 12 months.

I had a launch window PS2 that had DRE after about a year... it would read cd games just fine, but not dvds or dvd games.  I bought a new one right before Christmas, then the day after Christmas I put the defective one very carefully back in the box and returned it to Wal-Mart, claiming I got gifted two PS2s for Crimmus that year.  They took it back no questions asked and gave me store credit, which I used to get a bunch of games.

I never saw disk read error or a red screen or w/e.  It would go straight to the memory card screen. The worst is the wait to see if you'll get the Playstation 2 "blip" and know everything's OK.

Never got RROD.  Sold my launch 360 the very first time I saw it artifacting, about a month after launch :teehee

Frying how did you get sent to the memory card screen without a dre? That's the only time I was sent to the main screen.

by memory card screen I meant that main screen with browse and the other option.  and it's funny that the guy in the video turned his slim ps2 upside to make it work.  I did the same with my fat PS2, but eventually that method stopped working.

Honestly, only two of my ps2s had trouble.

I got a 2001 ps2 for Christmas 2001. By 2004 that thing had trouble most stuff, so I bought one of those yellow box ps2s just in time for San Andreas/MGS3;etc. That thing owned. But it started to deteriorate and I'd have trouble playing stuff like gta's. So I bought a ps2 slim in 2006. Still works.

My PS2 from within a month of launch doesn't read my copy of Taiko Drum Master. Tragic. Should get a slim sometime before they all disappear so I can play all of my stuff worry free if the spirit moves me.

A marketing guy and a producer have responded so far. I'm going to bet right now that this has no impact on anything. If the PS4 blocks used games, it was decided months ago.

Now I certainly believe that Sony would be very smart to blow MS out the water at E3 with a no-DRM announcement, thanking the fans for convincing them. But I doubt it will happen.
